Long ass friggin' weekend

Fri: Had a lot of fun at the show on Fri. Eric ended up feeling well enough to join me. Blue Sky Mile was up first, and since I was a lil' late, I didn't get to hear the entire set. Which is a bit disappointing, since I discovered I really like them. I had enough cash on hand to buy their latest CD. Next show I hope I have enough cash to buy their previous CD and mebbe a shirt ^_^ And thanks to fugli, he realized their song Second Impact may be a reference to Evangelion ^_^ I emailed to confirm, but I think the song title is a pretty good key. Here's the lyrics so you can make a judgement call for yourself ^_~

Plug in, hit the switches and make sure we sync, no time for human error right now.
Encased in a thousand tons of flesh and steel, can't hear me screamin'.
Impact, tilt the axis and erase the past. Redraw the lines in ashes now.
Rebuilt in our image with inherent flaws, I must be dreamin'.

*chorus*
Write this down and don't forget you mustn't run away again, because next time, next time, you'll be the only line.

I quit I don't want to fly this thing again, so tired of always bloody hands.
Define who I am by how they look at me, I'll always come back.
Plug in, hit the switches and make sure we sync, no time for human error right now.
Encased in a thousand tons of flesh and steel, can't hear me screamin'.

And I don't want this. But they won't let me out. I know I'll be there. When everyone goes underground.

We caged our gods here. We've finally let them out. No world but what we make ourselves. No cage but what we've fashioned. A real friend would pull the trigger now.

Anyways, enough of that. The Red Light Sting played next. I wasn't too impressed with them live, and I really could have done without the chick who was on keys singing. Bleck. Pretty Girls Make Graves played last and they seem to have a pretty solid following. They were pretty good, but personally I enjoyed BSM more. The lead singer (female) had a really good voice.

Sat: Class was good as usual. Skipped out on KB so I would have plenty of time to make my first SIFF movies of the day, 6ixtynin9. It was... kinda creepy and weird. I felt like a lot of the soundtrack was taken right from Ghost in the Shell. That coupled w/ the director's placing of the same dog in many shots makes me think that it's possible he might have a thing for Oshii Mamoru *shrugs* While I enjoyed the movie as it progressed (even as creepy as it got), I felt somewhat unfulfilled by the ending. It didn't really give me enough resolution, or redemption/punishment. Ah well.

Last Life in the Universe Came right after, in the same theater in fact ^_^ It was by the same director, actually. I think I enjoyed Last Life more than 6ixtynin9; perhaps that was because of the cinematographer (same as Hero), or the fact it felt more polished. Again, the ending left a little to be desired for me, but I was left more confused, not so much unfulfilled. It felt like there was a bit of a hole left at the end not transitioning us cleanly to the conclusion. But, I still really liked it.

Between this and the next, we had time for dinner, thankfully. We were going to hit Todai since we were in Pacific Place anyways, but there was quite a wait and Jeff couldn't afford it. So we jaunted down to Koji Osakaya so we could still have Japanese ^_^ Man, I love the katsu curry there. MmmMmm good. Kinda made me want to go to Takohachi again, too ^_^ I'll have to do that sometime soon.

A Problem With Fear was the last one on Sat for me. It was preceded by a short called Pits, which was hilarious. Yeah, and "Pits" refers to armpits =P it's a comedy about rectifying an embarressing situation prior to an interview ^_^ As far as A Problem With Fear, I really didn't know what to expect from it, but I really enjoyed it. There were some kinda weird parts, like how there would be seemingly random insertions of people wearing not too much clothes, or the one shot of a lady jogging nude... I'm not quite sure how that all fit in. But overall very enjoyable and fulfilling.

Sun: Headed up for the last SIFF movie I saw, Max Rules. I'm really glad I went to see that. It was preceded by a short called, The Climactic Death of Dark Ninja, showing how difficult it can be to get that final shot you want for your independent film. Max Rules, well, ruled. I was very impressed with it's production quality for a local independent film. It was a very enjoyable tween spy action movie. I haven't seen and of the Spy Kids movies (and don't really plan to, even w/ Rodriguez at the helm ><), but I think Max Rules straight beats them down ^_^ There were also some moments that really reminded me of the Ferris Beuller tv series (mostly the principal addressing Max over the intercom).

After the movie, we all headed down, and then Jeff and I got into our workout so we could finish it to give my family and I time to get dinner before all going out to see Riddick. Jeff and I have altered our workout schedule. I decided I wanted to spread the workout out during the week more, so we are doing it Sun/Wed/Th now, but we're splitting it up into chest/back one day, legs the next and arms the last. So they'll be relatively shorter sessions too. And we're also going w/ a pyramid structure for the lifts. I think I'm really liking this. Though the pyramid structure is going to necessitate I buy some hand weights in excess of 25 lbs so I can properly pyramid up ^^;;

Amazingly enough, everything happened pretty well on time. I told my parents and bro to head out a bit early to the restaurant to get a table while Jeff and I finished the workout and I cleaned up. I got to the restaurant just as they were called to be seated ^_^ Rockin'. Then we met up w/ wooko, islandergirlro and damienroc to see Riddick. I *really* enjoyed that movie. I don't want to talk about it too much so I don't give anything away, but if anyone wants to go see it, I'd gladly see it again w/ them ^_^ as long as I have time ^^;;

Now I think it's time for sleep. *slumps over*
