Depression is a disease. It's a potentially fatal one as we've all seen today. People with depression can not "snap out of it" or "buck up." They're sick. Very sick. Serious thoughts of suicide are a medical emergency and should be treated as such. People with depression are too often made to feel weak or selfish by society when, in fact, they are in desperate need of help. Be there for your friends and family that suffer from depression. It's awful and a terrible place to be and those of us suffering are, again, desperately in need of help, not added social stigma.
