Christmas has come and gone. There was no snow in Red Deer. I walked barefoot across my lawn in the plus zero degree weather. Friends from Asia wrote emails jealous that I was in a winter wonderland. Three Christmases in a row without snow.
I find that, more and more, the sense of Christmas is hard to come by. The childhood wonder is not automatically accessed. But family traditions like squinting at the lights, lighting the advent wreath, and, of course, Christmas morning stockings help bring that feeling back.
I've enjoyed the pace of the holidays. Games with the family, racking our brains at Sudoku, card games, trivia. Eating all those amazing Christmas squares, turkey, cranberry sauce. I am thankful.
