I've missed you all, and am just now catching up with some of your recent posts to LJ. For those of you who don't follow me on FB, I've been having hip surgeries. Had a wonderfully successful one on my left hip Feb 9th, then the rotten one on my right May 18th. Since May 18th, I'd been in and out of hospital for a week to 10 days at a time due to 2 nasty infections (MRSA and pseudomonas) until June 22nd when I was admitted to the hospital then immediately transferred to a physical rehab facility until July 24th. Over a month away from my home.
My surgeon has pretty much washed his hands of me and has referred me to an expert in Philadelphia who will do the 5th surgery on my right hip in about 4-6 months! I can put very little weight on my right leg, so I'm mostly confined to a wheelchair. The bedrooms and bathroom are on the second floor. I'm using our front room as a temporary bedroom and must use a bedside commode which I absolutely deplore!
I've just come off an 8 wk course of very strong IV antibiotics (Vancomycin and Maxipime), which turned my stomach enough that I lost nearly 50 lbs. I'm not complaining about the weight loss, but what a helluva way to do it.
I wanted to have the surgery in May so I could recover and enjoy the summer with my kids, take them places; park, library, museums, swimming, but here it is, nearly the middle of August and I can't walk without some sort of support. Oh, and during the initial right hip surgery, my peroneal nerve was compressed and I now have something called foot drop. I can't bend my foot upward at the ankle necessitating a brace, and excluding me completely from driving. It may or may not "come back", and there is no guess as to how long it will take.
Needless to say I'm an emotional wreck and have been put on an anti-anxiety med which usually works, most of the time.
