A Busy But Satisfying Day

Saturday April 4th was a busy day for us. King's College had an Easter Egg Hunt for the children (and grandchildren) of alumni. It was in the 40s, but the constant strong winds made it seem like it was much, much colder. I took both kids and after we registered, we headed over to the complimentary refreshment tables. I had a coffee, Conal had hot tea. Elora was too upset by the cold to have anything. Before the hunt began, I had opened my coat and let her stand against me, wrapping the coat around her as well, lent her my gloves too.

Kids were allowed to take 6 candy filled eggs each. We did so and left, but not before I took them into the library to see the reproduction Rosetta Stone on the far wall. Conal has been learning about it in his reading course. I could read some of the hieroglyphs, and a tiny bit of the Greek, but forget the Demotic....for now. ;-)
While there, I applied for an alumni library card. Conal was thrilled and in awe by the sheer size of the library which struck me as odd as he's been to larger. Perhaps it was the wide open space at the entrance which impressed him.

So, after that, we went to my parents' to drop Elora off for a fun day of cookie-baking with grandma and head up to Jessup with Conal for a radio class being offered to the boy scouts to earn their Radio badge. The class was free and if he wanted to take the test to get a license, it was $15. The class started at noon and ended around 430. It was basically a review of the class held the previous weekend which we did not attend. The way it was worded in the initial information implied that there were 2 separate classes covering the same material but that the second only would include the licensing test.
I sat in on the class a row behind Conal and took notes intending to go over them with him right before the test. Didn't get a chance to do that though. The instructor was engaging and knowledgeable and offered a test to me to take as a lark as I was just sitting in, taking a few notes but not otherwise paying much attention (I was reading the college paper I brought along, and sewing patches on Elora's brownie vest).

Oddly, I passed! Didn't get the best grade in the class, but I passed it! Conal passed too, achieving a higher grade than I for which I was extremely proud! WOO! So we'll get our call numbers in about a week's time. I'll have to look into getting hold of an inexpensive handy talkie so we can practice and contact some of the people who were in our class.

So, yeah, I'm kind of proud of myself, and very proud of Conal!

Left there at around 6 to pick up Elora from an exhausted grandma. She had a wailing fit, didn't want to leave. Finally got them loaded in the car and off to home where hubby had a lovely dinner of Swedish meatballs prepared for us!

Overall, a great day! :-)
