Way behind...

I have been negligent in my livejournal reading and posting.  It seems like a great many days since I have been here, reading your journals, keeping up with what is happening in people's lives, replying and basically keeping the channels of communication open.  Same applies to e-mail, with messages awaiting response.  This has simply been one of ( Read more... )

You want to be able to share music, like information, but at the same time you don't want to poison the local well in favor of regional or national behemoths. It bears thinking about.

Sharing music is exactly the point, at least for me, and I want to find ways of encouraging that---especially in a non-(or at least less-)commercial context or manner. And, if I have no choice but to give money to someone in order to hear the music I want to hear, it is going to be someone I actually see face-to-face and know by name, and not some entity that does nothing to improve the community in which I live. It most certainly does bear thinking about. And I truly believe this needs to be a much wider conversation.

Which is what I just did with your last week of posts. It's funny that you're listening to "C" music. My favorites tend to pile up as "S": Smog, the Soft Boys, Sebadoh, Siouxsie and the Banshees. And now, with this latest album, the Shins. I also used to keep a folder of jazz-cabaret mp3's labeled "Standards".

Have you succumbed to the evil of Myspace? Let me know, per my last post. Thinking of you -

Well, as it happens, I am right now on to the letter S: Steely Dan. I am listening to the first 5 albums in order. As least until I can finally go to sleep.

I most certainly have not succumbed to the "evil of Myspace," as you put it. Most of my nieces are on there, as well as my oddball friend Juan Blanco, so I have considered creating an account just to keep up with them. But... I just can't do it! It is just too... too... god, I can't think of the right adjective! Slimey comes to mind, but that is very imprecise. Whatever... point is, I can't stand the place.

Oh, and awhile back, I got an e-mail saying I had a new message from you on last.fm, but when I logged in, no such message was to be found.

Oh, come on. Come to MySpace. You can be an old curmudgeon among young people with G and me. The thing is that I have two young sisters and many coworkers who use it all the time. Got to stay in the groove and all that.

Uh, last.fm. Maybe it was a notice about the long message I sent. Can't remember if I replied to your reply. Thank you for the recommendation (Petra Haden?). I will listen when I can savor it. Perhaps with the new WMP plug-in for Last.fm listening will work better.

The new Shins album is so good. I hope I don't tire of it, because it's on the store's playlist this month.

Cheers --

MySpace: As I say, I'm thinking about it...

Last.fm: I very rarely log-in there anymore... once every 8 or 9 days, I would guess...

I am still playing catch up when it comes to The Shins---Oh, Inverted World sitting here on the desk waiting to be listened to... and possible ripped...

Petra Haden, incidentally, used to be a Decemberist.
