In recent, or not so recent, news. I scammed the US government out of 50 cents. Indeed. I have committed fraud against our nation. So a while ago, during our fall break, my seminar went to Niagara Falls. And as you all know I’m allergic to peanuts. Which means that I can’t eat M&M’s. So it’s kind of a big deal when I go to Canada because I can buy Smarties, the Canadian version of M&M’s. So we were staying right at the falls basically. And Dr. Reimann didn’t want to stop or stay in Canada, we just drove through. So on our second night there I got my roommate to walk across the border with me to walk around and buy Smarties. On our way back into the country there was a 50 cent fee to walk through a rotating gate (the kind you have to walk through and push with your legs) Well, because nobody was watching I just climbed over. Charming.
The orchestra here kind of blows. But there’s really nothing I can do about that. I’m just missing Civic so much and Mr. Burke and Jeff and Laurel and Kyle. And talented players and good music and being able to play an entire symphony. And play Russian composers. Oh Russians, how I miss your po’d composing. We had 4 high school kids come in and play with the orchestra for an ‘honours orchestra’ which was fine. But I ended up getting sucked into helping them and playing in quartets with them, along with a few other people in our orchestra. That was last weekend. And I played for 10 and a half hours on Sat. It rocked. People get paid to do that. I mean, how awesome is that? And I know I can never be in a professional symphony, but defiantly I’ll at least be in a local one and getting PAID to do something I’d do anyway? It can’t really get much better.
So I’m stage managing a play, Stop Kiss. It’s about these two women, Callie and Sara. Sara moves to New York and Callie shows her around. Sara dumped her fiancé to come and Callie has an on and off boyfriend, but they end up falling in love. Eventually they kiss. But some guy sees them and starts to harass them and Sara tells him to fuck off, so he beats her into a coma. Then Callie has to deal with the issues of ‘am I in a relationship with her?’ and the police reports, and Sara’s ex fiancé. So eventually Sara wakes up, and Callie decides that she will take care of her. But all the scenes are jumbled, so you see things out of order. And the last thing you see on stage is the kiss. It’s sweet. And our actors are good. And our set guy is good, and our lights guy is good. And I’m psyched. It’s in the black box and it runs from December 1st to the 3rd. Not that it’s a plug for you to come visit me or anything.
