Quick Update

I've been feeling really well this week. Last Thursday I got the brilliant idea to make my underwear pull double duty and also serve to strap the suprapublic catheter to my belly. This has made it a lot easier to walk.

Every day I feel a little stronger. Every day I feel a little better. Today, however, I'm only doing semi-okay. I did something dumb yesterday. I think that I've mentioned that my doctor has told me not to lift more than 10 lbs or to otherwise exert myself.

Keep that in mind as I tell you what happened on the way home from work yesterday when I went grocery shopping. I had a short list, seven items, so I just grabbed a basket instead of a cart. The items included: vegetable oil, mac & cheese, bacon, hamburger, orange juice, cat food, and toilet paper.

I did say it was a dumb thing, right? (I'm sure some of you already see the problem inherrant in my plan.)

So, I take a nice slow stroll through the grocery store. I realize that I have become one of those people I hate who walk way too slow.

I get 1/2 pound of bacon, and 2 lbs of hamburger. While I'm at the deli, I also get 1/2 pound of sliced ham, a 1/2 pound of sliced cheese, and a fish filet to fix for dinner. While I'm getting 4 boxes of mac & cheese and a bottle of vegetable oil, I also get 4 cans of vegetables. If you are keeping track, you'll notice this is about 6 or 7 lbs. I wasn't keeping track. If I had been, I'd have gone back for a cart.

I then got a half gallon of orange juice and a 3 lb bag of cat food and a pack of toilet paper. I also got a frozen dinner (2 lbs), a bag of chips, and a jar of salsa. All told, about 15 pounds.

Just when I thought, "this basket looks kinda full" I got this piercing intense pain. I had to put the basket down and catch my breath. I picked it back up and made my way slowly, with frequent stops, to the check out counters. I then split it up between two hands and carried it out. Of course, that didn't really double the amount I'm supposed to carry.

I drove home and still felt badly. Now, had I thought this through, I would have taken two trips in with the groceries. But, as I said earlier, this was a dumb thing. I figured that since I didn't feel good, I should get it all in one trip to get done faster.

So, I felt awful all night last night. And, I didn't feel very well today. But, I have been getting better. And, I think that if I hadn't been feeling so close to normal, I probably wouldn't have even tried something that dumb.

Also, my mouth is still getting better. I was actually able to eat on both sides today. It's a lot better than it was last week when I accidentally tore open the inside of my mouth by trying to open it far enough to eat a hot dog.
