Movie viewers do not like ambiguity.

Saw Lovely Molly the other night (and rewatched again to show Joe) and I find myself curious as to the sheer number of people who instantly dislike a film that contains any sort of ambiguity. Lovely Molly is nothing if not ambiguous, and I quite liked it. It was a weird mash-up of Silent Hill (helped by the protagonist's vague resemblance to an older Heather Mason) and Marble Hornets. It was enjoyable, and there was a lot of discuss about the film once it was over- even a second time.

What is it about critical thinking and coming to your own conclusions about a work is so terrible for some people?
