Nico watching anime? IT CAN HAPPEN (No spoilers)

On numerous recommendations (James’ insipid anime nerd roommate, JesuOtaku, ect) I decided to do the unthinkable.

Watch anime.

Not any anime. But Puella Magi Magica MadokaIf I hadn’t heard of this series, or watched JesuOtaku’s review, I would probably never have given this a second chance. But anime is a lot like fanfiction, IMO. 90% of it is ( Read more... )

Aww man, I can't wait for your review! Madoka was one of those things I wasn't expecting to like nearly as much as I ended up doing, but after watching it it became one of my main fandoms. XD

I feel like my take on the show was pretty much what yours is so far. The art style REALLY grated on me at first (it's seriously exactly the kind of art I hate the most, haha), but the witch barriers were so cool I got over it after a while.

Plus, style aside, the animation quality is actually quite good. And man, aren't those fight scenes just crazy??

Yeah, the quality is gorgeous, and the art is beautiful. I've come to even enjoy the Moe-esque style...for this series. (I love the way they do the eyes though!)

I'm in love with the opening and ending themes. And I can't believe

*SPOILERS UP TO EP7* I'm at episode seven already and Madoka has not become a MG. That's actually really cool.

I really, really disliked Madoka up until episode 10. Then I finally understood the reasons behind the aspects of her I didn't like.

Her character development is amazing. She's still my least favorite in the show, but for the specific premise of PMMM, she's pretty perfect.

I feel like after you've seen a few episodes of the show you realize that there's actually strong conceptual grounds for the art style being a "generic" and "moe" as it is. To me that made it forgivable. XD

I actually really liked Madoka the whole way through. But I'm really attracted to characters who are "weak" or "normal" in a case of Awesome. (A lot of my original protags are like this, which is a criticism I get from my editors a lot) But yeah, I actually really liked how she didn't become a Magical Girl until the final episode. It was crazy. (I'd love to see more of the alternate timelines though. I have a thing for Bow-users, and the idea of the group dynamic is awesome!)

I dunno if I have a favorite...I really like Kyubey, actually. I also had a really soft spot of Homura and Mami as well.

Agreed. I've even come to kind of like it- in a weird way. It works better than, say, Higurashi where the gore was a huge contrast to the Bratz!Moe-style, but just did not work visually for me.

He, I liked Kyubey the most. He was fascinating.
