On numerous recommendations (James’ insipid anime nerd roommate, JesuOtaku, ect) I decided to do the unthinkable.

I feel like my take on the show was pretty much what yours is so far. The art style REALLY grated on me at first (it's seriously exactly the kind of art I hate the most, haha), but the witch barriers were so cool I got over it after a while.
Plus, style aside, the animation quality is actually quite good. And man, aren't those fight scenes just crazy??

Her character development is amazing. She's still my least favorite in the show, but for the specific premise of PMMM, she's pretty perfect.
I feel like after you've seen a few episodes of the show you realize that there's actually strong conceptual grounds for the art style being a "generic" and "moe" as it is. To me that made it forgivable. XD

I dunno if I have a favorite...I really like Kyubey, actually. I also had a really soft spot of Homura and Mami as well.

Agreed. I've even come to kind of like it- in a weird way. It works better than, say, Higurashi where the gore was a huge contrast to the Bratz!Moe-style, but just did not work visually for me.
