Nico watching anime? IT CAN HAPPEN (No spoilers)

On numerous recommendations (James’ insipid anime nerd roommate, JesuOtaku, ect) I decided to do the unthinkable.

Watch anime.

Not any anime. But Puella Magi Magica Madoka.

If I hadn’t heard of this series, or watched JesuOtaku’s review, I would probably never have given this a second chance. But anime is a lot like fanfiction, IMO. 90% of it is clichéd boring and contrite, but there’s that 10% that beats out pretty much any other form of storytelling. (Red Garden still shocked me with how much I liked it)

I’ve reached episode six, and so far?

So. Worth. It.

Aside from the amazing music from Yuji Kaijura (omggg loveee), even the moe artstyle- one I literaly cannot stand- has grown on me. The Witches’ Labryinths are all experimental and often look like a paper mache’ come to life. It’s amazing. The acting is great, the action is awesome, and the story line is really intriguing. The serious look into what exactly it means to be a ‘magical girl’ was one of my favorite things about Red Garden. This takes an even bigger look, showing what exactly someone with the that duty would have to sacrifice.

So, yeah. Loving it so far. Really like Madoka. All the characters are very likable, except for Kyubey who I think is evil. Evil. Like, he’s so cute. Seriously the cutest mascot I’ve seen in a really long time.

But he really really scares me.

Once I’ve seen the whole anime, I’ll probably write up a review.

anime, geek, puella magi magica madoka
