Title: to the days when we smiled
Pairing: Go Nam Soon/ Han Young Woo (NamWoo?), mentions of others
Drama: School 2013 (Hakgyo 2013/학교 2013)
Rating: PG
Notes: All because of this photoset right here. I realize that HeungSoon is the OTP of all OTPs of this drama (which I see and heartily support, though I am as of yet only through ep 6 right now DON'T SPOIL IT FOR ME) but I couldn't help but think if this was a shoujo series, Young Woo would have been the unpopular girl Nam Soon would have fallen for and I loved his character and ugh they are just so cute, so here. I wrote this on my phone in class, which just made this all the more... odd. I should be writing like everything else on the planet but TAKE THIS FLUFF INSTEAD.
Summary: Young Woo never gets what he wants, and he never expects to, either.

The day was bright, glare from the sun strong enough to have Young Woo close his eyes. There was the slight shift of Nam Soon next to him on the wooden bench, and the faint breeze carried the slightest scent of his shampoo over to Young Woo. Today was rare, one of those days Nam Soon didn't immediately run off after Heung Soo, and instead went up to the rooftop like old times to lie beside Young Woo in the warmth of the sun. Young Woo could almost reach out and touch Nam Soon on the shoulder, could feel the edge of his uniform jacket only a couple of centimeters away from his hand, but he'd never do it. He didn't have the courage and he knew Nam Soon wouldn't like it.

Nam Soon let out a huff of air and shifted, body drawing away and Young Woo flushed, almost as if Nam Soon could hear his thoughts from their proximity and was trying to get away.

But then there was the light touch on his face, just barely cupping his jaw with the tips of his fingers, and someone's soft mouth brushed over his. Young Woo's eyes snapped open to see Nam Soon pulling away, smile on the edge of his lips before he dropped back down beside Young Woo with a sigh.

Young Woo sat up, skin aflame and hand immediately reaching for his mouth.

"W-why did you--?" He turned to Nam Soon, who had his hands behind his head in a manner suggesting nonchalance, but the look on his face was tense.

"I've wanted to do that for a while," he said, though it sounded more like a defense rather than a confession.

But even so, it was more than Young Woo had expected. "But w-why?"

Nam Soon shrugged a little, eyes meeting Young Woo's briefly before sliding away.

"Don't you l-love--" Young Woo struggled to say the name caught in his throat, and failed. He fell silent when Nam Soon continued to look up at the sky with a determined expression, though the sun was direct enough to blind.

Nam Soon just pressed his lips together, the line going from sensual to almost-annoyed. But then he looked back at Young Woo and said, "I love him, too."

Young Woo felt his heart drop in his chest, and he felt his shoulders drop slightly, even as he tried to keep his face from showing anything. Nam Soon heaved himself up into a seated position, pulling one leg up and wrapping an arm around it, tilting his head until he could look at Young Woo up close. "You don't like it?"

Young Woo shook his head, unsure if he was saying no to liking it or no to the question. "But why did you do that when you love him?"

Nam Soon smiled a little, eyes crinkling at the corners. "But I said I love you, too."

His breath seemed knocked out of his chest, the look Nam Soon was giving him suddenly too much to handle. Young Woo felt like his whole body was on fire with embarrassment, and he was surprised he could speak at all when his hands were shaking on his legs. "The same?" He managed to ask.

Nam Soon reached out and tapped the edge of Young Woo's face lightly with one finger. His smile was a little softer this time, from what Young Woo could see from the corner of his eye. "Possibly more."

Young Woo shook his head, unable or possibly unwilling to believe it. There was absolutely no way.

"You don't think so?" Nam Soon questioned, fingers dropping to rest on the curve of Young Woo's shoulder. Even through the thick material, the sweater vest and collared shirt, it felt like Nam Soon's touch was warm and heavy, meant to be reassuring but instead making Young Woo's hands shake so much he clenched them together in his lap, drawing his knees tightly together. People didn't touch him, and certainly never like this. With favorable intent of any kind.

"Why not?" Nam Soon questioned, and Young Woo wanted to curl up in on himself, make everything go away, because this was too much. He wasn't supposed to get what he wanted, and he certainly didn't want to explain why he couldn't.

"Because how could you love me more than him?" He said in a small voice, almost hoping that Nam Soon couldn't hear. But there was a soft exhalation of a sigh next to him, before fingers slid up to lightly stroke the skin of his neck, right under his ear. Young Woo bit his lip and looked over to see Nam Soon staring at him, expression unreadable.

"I love you the same," he said softly, fingers continuing their light touch. The breeze blew from behind him and made the flyaway ends of his hair shake briefly, before the wind stopped and Nam Soon continued. "But you might love me back?" The end of his words, though a statement, came across as a question and Nam Soon raised an eyebrow, eyes flickering over his face.

He wanted to just accept what Nam Soon was saying, but he couldn't stop himself from self-sabotage, not even this once. "H-he could love you b-back."

There was a flicker of sadness over Nam Soon's face, a brief moment of grief in his expression, before it passed and he was looking at Young Woo with that same soft, kind expression. "He never will," he said, voice certain. Young Woo didn't know how to respond to that, how sure Nam Soon seemed to be. Nam Soon's hand stopped its slow caress and slid around the curve of Young Woo's neck, thumb caught at the edge of his jaw. "But do you?" There was a smile at the edge of his lips, barely there, and the warmth of his hand made Young Woo unable to lie.

He nodded, feeling his face flush when the smile blossomed across Nam Soon's face and his fingers scritched across the back of Young Woo's neck.

"Okay," Nam Soon whispered, before leaning in and brushing his lips over Young Woo's cheek. The skin seemed to tingle with the mark, Young Woo almost bringing a hand up to touch his face. But Nam Soon was putting one of his hands over Young Woo's clenched fists, palm hot and slightly damp, as if he had been worried, too. His fingers tightened over Young Woo's as he leaned in again and kissed him, lips soft as ever but now Young Woo could lean into the touch, eyes closed and skin burning with something so close to excitement or happiness, he couldn't tell which.
