.... kinda disappointing, really. The Work Less Party PARTY, that is. To be fair, the crowd for our main set on stage was enthusiastic, very supportive of all the performers; I don't think we've played for as large a group as this in the year that I've been with the band (with the possible exception of our spring Ederlezi show). Unfortunately, there was a fairly noticeable lack of organization. We were supposed to play a second set on the roof, which took us about 20 minutes to get up there with all our instruments, negotiating the stairwells with partygoers, only to discover that no, we weren't going to get to play up there after all.
We then decided that we'd try playing in the basement, see if we could start something up down there, so we trundle back downstairs, and start playing, which is when some genius decided that it would be a great idea to set off the fire alarm. Big, burly men from the Fire Department show up to turn off the alarms, which is a relief, because my ears feel as thought they're going to start bleeding from all the noise. Unfortunately, before they can say that the building is safe and secure, it needs to be evacuated. While C.R. Avery and his group are trying to do a soundcheck, one of the organizers is telling everybody in the main auditorium that they have to leave.
Can you imagine how incredibly difficult it is to get several hundred drunk, stoned, semi-naked twentysomethings to do anything that doesn't involve more alcohol, pot or sex? Thanks to last night, I don't have to. Herding cats would have been easier. By this point it's just after midnight, we'd had enough of the shenanigans and decided to leave. Too bad, because it looked like a lot of fun, which it probably was for the people who were there to have a good time. For the performers, however ... yeah, I think I'll give this a pass next time, thanks.
