Mardi Gras 2010

Feb 22, 2010 23:38

This is kinda late, but I'd like to let everyone know that Mardi Gras 2010 was indeed a great success. Here's the short version,

Friday: Travel down to NOLA. Chris^2, Shelby, and I met up and made our way down to Lee Circle where we took advantage of my family's review stand for the parades. Because of bad weather (=snow!?!?/rain/sleet) the night before, there were a grand total of 4 parades that we got to witness. These included KREWE D'ETAT, MUSES, and MORPHEUS. Basically, we were there from 8 to 12-midnight, by the end of which Shelby's feet hurt really bad and I called her "dainty geisha" because she was walking like she had bound feet. It was mighty hilarious. Did I also mention...it was FREEZING??? I was lucky that I packed my thermals, they were definalty needed.

Saturday: ENDYMION. Chris^2 and I parted ways from Shelbx (who would be attending the ball later in the evening). After rounding up our MG diet provisions (beer and booze), and recreating an awesome picture with Rain vodka and a fierce bob, we met up with Meredith and Madonna and headed to The Gambit's parking lot. Ashleigh and sister also headed down from BR for the day to be apart of all the festivities. We all started a stroll down Orleans Ave and luckily spotted Anna. So, after beads, beer, parade, drinking etc, we ended up walking down to Bud's Brolier for our dinner. For me, the night ended with a trip back to Laplace where I would rest up to take part in family activities for the next day.

Sunday: Laplace parade (Krewe of Dumode), my family rented a float, and therefore I got to ride in the parade! Basically, we had non-stop fun. After meeting in the designated area early in the AM, we unleashed our table of food and started passing around the Jager bottle. I was also heavily into my screwdirivers. We loaded the float and the parade began rolling at 12. We ran out of things to throw at about 1/4 mile were the parade actually ended...not bad...could have been better. After a quick revival (washing hands...did I mention beads are flithy?, and a big influx of H20), my dad, uncle, aunt, and I were off to the review stand to catch BACCHUS. Chris^2 met up with me there. We caught our dabloons from Breesus, my dad got even more wasted and made a total ass of himself, and then I rode back to Laplace.

LUNDI GRAS: Didn't get down to NOLA until later in the afternoon because of a birthday lunch for my paw paw. Picked up my cousin, her friend, and Lyz along the way and we got down to Fulton St just in time for me to grab a delicious beer and see the free Cowboy Mouth concert. Like Saturday, we had a nice crowd. Lyz and I, then Shelby and Chris^2, plus some general acquaintances whose names I can't recall right now.The concert was awesome, I think all the first-times to the Mouth thoroughly enjoyed Fred and we gave him lots of rhythm. After the parade, everyone grabbed a bite to eat at Erst Cafe (while I stashed by things in my aunt's hotel room at the Hilton, where I'd spend the night on the floor). We all made our way to Lee Circle to see ORPHEUS from the stand. Once the parade was over, everyone was ready for warmth, so we made our way to the furnace that was Harrah's (only after Chris told his version of the Lion King, including "come along and smack me on the bottom"..."got alotta penguins and pajamas"). We parted shortly after that, for me to get my parking ticket validated and for the rest to either head home or find a nice bar.

MARDI GRAS: My aunt's hotel room awoke around 9am, we found out through the news that ZULU's main float had broken down or something, meaning we had hope to get there in time. We all hurriedly got ready, checked out, and headed over to the stand. Luckily we caught it just as it was beginning to pass the stand. Right after all the coconuts, we got to hail REX, and then we suck around for most of the truck floats. It lasted an un-holy amount of time. If we got to the stand around 10:30, we didn't leave until 4:30...it was pretty crazy. After battling New Orleans traffic, I got back to my grandparents house around 7 that night and pretty much passed out a few hours later.

Wednesday was a day of recovery...and beginning of Lent. I've decided to give up fast food for Lent, and I'll consider that mostly to be places with drive-thrus...meaning no McD's, BK, Wendy's, Taco Bell...ugh. It might get expensive, but I think I can handle it.

Now to get back to buisniess...I have a lot of writing and homework. Plus I need to get the ball rolling on this research I'm suppose to be doing...
