Another "real world's close" moment

Last night, Tommy & I finished Halo 3 on Legendary. I finally got to play the hero when it was Tommy & I, taking 1 of the last 3 scarabs solo and doing the getaway drive (I was gunner at first, got fried, respawned when it gave us another warthog, we both did driving & he somehow- I was too busy watching my screen to figure it out). Then we started watching the credits.

When I saw "John Dimaggio" as the Brute Chieftan, asked "is that Fry [from Futurama]?" I started looking for other names I recognized. Then I saw a John Doyle- I had a CS class with one of those in Highschool. A Steven Wu- I know 3. A Vic- my best friend from highschool, and he thanked "Annie, Jake, mom, dad & bro." The last one I saw first time through when playing with Dan; he & I commented on it at the same time. Since something like 30-40% of CS majors want primarily to make videogames (and twice that would like it), there's actually a decent chance any graduated programmers I know would be there. I'm seeing not just names I recognize, but people I actually know, personally. Kinda freaky.

I'm finally old enough that people I knew are in the "real world" doing visible stuff that's not a restaurant or retail. It sets the bar higher and makes me realize how old & close to "the real world" I really am.
