Jubes knew that she was giving herself away as she checked the clock again for the umpteenth time but it wasn't her fault that the hands seemed to be inching along at an agonizingly slow pace!  Biting back a frustrated sigh, she raked her hands through her hair as she took another second or two to try composing herself but she couldn't help the

John was a bit dirty and a bit exhausted from the fight when they returned from Alkali Lake. They'd freed a mutant that the Professor and Magneto seemed to know from before the portal opened. Someone who was killed by an enemy of Magneto's called 'Shaw'.

Keeping his head down and his ears opened had provided John something of a brief education about his employer, and it only afforded him more respect for the man.

He was surprised to find Jubilee in the entrance hall as the group of mostly mercenaries began to disperse.

"Hi," he said, running a hand through his hair a little awkwardly. He suspected he probably looked a little gross. And possibly smelled.

Jubes was still on the stairs, still contemplating going upstairs, when suddenly people started to return and she felt a rush of relief when she saw John was one of them. Not that she had doubted that he would come back (at least, she hadn't doubted it much) but it was still good to see him as he made his way towards her.

She was tempted to rush and hug him but she found herself staying awkwardly in one place as she watched the others wander off in different directions. She didn't want to embarrass him and herself in front of them, so she waited till he came over to her.

"Hey." She smiled, bracing a hand on the railing as she stepped aside so people could go past her. "How...are you okay?"

John nodded. "Yeah. I'm good. Just tired. It was an all-nighter and then all day." He shrugged and glanced around. Everyone was gone now. "We brought another mutant back."

She glanced over her shoulder as the last person disappeared from sight. Even as he stated they had brought another mutant back, she was stepping forward to hug him. Wrapping her arms around his shoulders, she didn't rush in pulling away like she had the first time she sprang a hug on him but this time she lingered for a second or two.

When she finally pulled back, she wouldn't quite meet his eyes even as she offered a small smile. "That's great." She dropped her arms down to her sides.

He was slightly surprised by the hug, but he also savoured it, offering his own awkward smile as she pulled away.

"Apparently he's a friend of Magneto and the Professor. They thought he was dead."

"Really? Well, I bet they were relieved to find him, huh?" She smiled, looking at him finally once she felt some of the shyness fade away again.

"So what else happened?" She asked, wanting to know what happened on the mission but then she realized that he looked more than a little tired and dirty. "I'm sorry, you probably want to clean up, don't you? Or sleep?"

John shook his head. "I'm kinda wired, actually. I think I'd rather eat. We... could go to the kitchen," he suggested.

"Sure." Jubes nodded, trying to remember when she had last had anything to eat. Stepping off the stairs, she started towards the kitchen with him. "So everyone is okay? No one got hurt?"

"Stryker's men," John pointed out with a snort. "You should have seen the way Magneto handled them. He probably could have cleaned that base out by himself."

"I can see it." She admitted, nodding her head. Maybe she didn't like Erik that much but she knew he was good at what he did. His power also made him a powerful threat.

John glanced at her before opening the fridge, wondering if she still had issues with being on the same side as Magneto.

"Stryker wasn't there, though. We have to keep looking for him."

It wasn't that she had issues being on the same side as Magneto, it was just the personal issues they had with each other. Or what she perceived as them having problems with each other.

"That sucks." She frowned, pulling herself up to sit on a counter nearby. "He really has a way of slipping away, doesn't he?"

"Like a rat."

He glanced over the contents of the fridge, then pulled out some cheese. Going over to the breadbox, he looked at Jubilee over his shoulder. "Do you like grilled cheese?"

"I guess we need a really good rat trap then."

Watching him with a small smile, she nodded her head. "Yeah, I love them."

"Magneto and the Professor are working on that," John told her as he set about working on the sandwiches. "I don't know what the plan is, but I think they have something big in the works. They're also building something in the basement. I think it might be the sublevels they had here when we were students."

Jubes nodded her head, crossing her legs. "Have they asked anyone about the sublevels?" She hadn't considered mentioning it to either one of them because it simply hadn't crossed their minds. "I imagine the teachers know."
