So, I woke up today to find my computer was pretty much dead. Half the time it wouldn't even get to grub(it'd just freeze up). Otherwise, I could get to the point where linux was detecting my cpu; but the screen was totally garbled(ascii character-wise), and it failed to get past the cpu detection. The cpu looks somewhat cooked.
Thankfully, I just got a computer from a friend of
saskboy, so I quickly moved some components over to it, dusted it abit, changed the bios settings for it's ram, and away I went.
It's an AMD Duron; It's half the speed of my previous computer(chthulhu), with slower ram...but it seems stable. And that makes the difference; I'd much rather use 100% of a computer half as slow than one I can only use 1% of. My limiting factor really was heat; and it seems like heat is at least nowhere near as serious of an issue for this computer. We'll see how well things go from here
