A WEEK OF JON AND STEPHEN

Jun 08, 2009 23:00

With the Report in the Gulf this week I have decided to liveblog The Daily Show and Colbert Report. Because I love Jon and Stephen both equally.

I was going to make this public except I can't figure out how to override my default security settings. It let me, just now. Hmm.

Jon looks very energetic tonight.

HEY, HEY! You know how I said that I didn't think I could love Stephen anymore? Yeah - you were so right on that, because as soon as he stood in front of that old-fashioned microphone and leant on that golf club my heart exploded again. I mean, I don't know how many of the younger soldiers will get it? But it was awesome that he made a Bob Hope reference like that. ♥ Oh, and you were so right about Jon being energetic (part of my mind did that - Stephen being gone makes his insomnia worse > Jon needs to drink more caffeine to stay upbeat > Jon maybe drinks too much coffee > Jon ends up hyperactive by show time.)

TDS:

1. I loved Jon's comeback to the Joe NBC stuff. Though I was a little sad he didn't pick up on their fail at 'irony'. It's not irony guys - and if it was sarcasm? Yeah, it was rubbish sarcasm.

2. My first reaction to the way Fox News played that clip? 'That's not what he said, guys!' I, uh, have apparently absorbed too much from AC360. :D

Also, yay for Keith and blink and you'll miss it Rachel/Ana Marie splitscreen!

Also massive Lols at CNN 'desperate' - they really are so bad. Shame they didn't have a clip of Anderpants' exhorting people to text in.

3. The MTV movie awards: that whole bit was actually a set-up, natch, and quite funny on the face of it. But, man - did Jon ever get stuck into Fox tonight. It was awesome.

The Geraldo burn was wicked. :D

4. She was a wonderfully eloquent and smart lady - and you could see that Jon was totally into her. And his rather passionate swearing was kinda awesome.

5. I loved that shout-out - you could see that Jon was all 'whee! Stephen!' internally.

TCR

1. OMG, that beginning was great. I had a feeling that they were going for that when it kicked off and I loved the way they did it. Also the shoe joke was awesome.

2. I mentioned the Bob Hope thing already but I cannot stress enough how happy that made me. Stephen is such a comedy geek sometimes, I love it.

And the John McCain thing (which I'm going to jump ahead tie into the Obama thing) - it just proves the power of Stephen. Because McCain was clearly reading off a card - which suggests that Stephen and his writers got together to write this stuff and then got McCain (and the Motherfucking President) to play along. Which is just...astounding.

3. You already know how I feel about what Stephen's doing. :D

4. I was so surprised and excited by the Word! Which was also very funny, Bullet was on fine form.

And declaring victory - I was half-expecting some kind of banner unfurling and balloon drop. :D

5. The Basic Training thing was pretty great - I loved that the Drill Sergeants were playing along with him - Stephen must've been exhausted after that though. (Aww, his adorable little paunch *rubs Stephen's belly*)

6. Apparently Stephen has surprised everyone by lining up a series of commanders that haven't been doing a lot of talking lately (though it begs the questions: has anyone been asking them to talk?) and I guess kicking off with Odienero is a good start.

Also - POTUS!Squee. I, uh, may have applauded. :D That ears joke was brilliant (did Favs write that? Or was that Stephen too?)

7. Aww, Stephen's hair. I'm not devastated the way a lot of fandom is. I think it looks kinda awesome - though, yeah, I can't wait to see what Jon says.

(If I don't write it first. :D)

Ahaha giant comment! XD I know, I know, how can these boys just continue to make us love them more? Now that I know about the Bob Hope thing I'm even more squee-y over the show. And however much coffee he'd had, Jon was clearly excited, and it made for a great episode.

TDS!

1) It was ridiculous sarcasm. Segments like that are why I love TDS and TCR, because we don't have anyone to report on the media. Unless the new outlets are involved in a scandal, no one's going to poke each other for being ridiculous. TDS and TCR do that for us.

2) Anderson's goal is to get us all to react like that XD

I missed that split screen both times (yes, I watched the reair, what of it). Aw.

Jon knew Anderson was giving Stephen a shout-out so he put that clip away ;)

3) The night was just burn after burn, it was great. (I think the MTV music awards' demographic is something like 14-17 year olds anyway.)

4) Jon swearing is a lot of fun.

5) I just... *sputter* I can't wait to see tonight's show to see if he shows a picture or footage or just, you know, something.

TCR!

1) The short article blurb someone posted at ontd_p said "he was greeted in the traditional manner" when he got to Iraq. XD

2) Stephen is an enormous geek about so many things, it's great.

When McCain popped up I was startled but laughed, because, oh Stephen, you got the 2008 Republican nominee for President and the actual President on your show. And they played along with "Stephen!" It just shows how big TDS and TCR are.

3) <3333

4) Bullet and "Stephen" are their own OTP.

5) Whenever anyone plays along with "Stephen," it automatically puts them in my good graces. I hope they had fun doing it.

6) When I saw the guest list I was duly impressed. It'll be interesting to see how he interviews them as the week goes on.

(I am going to say Stephen, though I like the idea that Obama came up with it himself XD)

7) It'll grow back and in the meantime I am highly amused. Good luck dying it as it grows out, Stephen. I want to see lots of speculation on Jon's reaction but they have got to do a Toss at some point before it's long again, right? At the very least next Monday, "Hey Stephen, you're back from Iraq!"
