PA,
I can't stress the impact Child's Play has had on my view of the gaming industry and the various trigger happy gamers of the world. To see people like me, all around the world, actually caring about something other than the inherently self-centered view of video games makes you see past just an Avatar dashing about on the screen. Even the ones that betray their own teamates, or train a zone-full of mobs. No longer can I honestly look into the monitor and type, "You're a Bastard and I hope you go to hell for that." Because, you know, I've realized, they are people too.
Donating to Child's Play gave me the gift of redemption. For a while have felt like I've waisted the vast majority of the past eight years sitting in front of a computer. I mean, sure, I could have put my time and money to much better usebesides computers and gaming, but then I would have no reason to read Penny-arcade, and then I wouldn't know about Child's Play, and then some poor kid in NJ wouldn't be getting a video game for christmas. How would I feel about myself then? Not very good, I can tell you that. I really hope that a child in the Children's Specialized Hospital, NJ enjoys their gift as much as I've enjoyed giving it, which is honestly more than I thought giving a pressed piece of plastic to a young and unfortunate soul could ever amount to.
In all seriousness, though, I think what you guys are doing is great. It honestly did inspire me quite a bit, what with the whole gift of giving and so forth. So to pay my dues I decided to not only advertise Child's Play on my site, but also to guilt all of my friends, family members, and various other random people, who wear clothing which suits those who have money, into diging a little deeper this year for those not blessed with the ability to have cells that cooporate with eachother. If a college student can fork up one forth of his bankacount, then there is hope for the world yet.
We may not have a lot of money, we children of University, but we do have the uncanning ability to sell baked goods and hand out flyers (that and figuring out how to mass email every school address). In short, All those who attend Clemson will soon be informed about the children with diseases and the Gamers that care. I really wish you guys the best and hope all is well with the kids who will probably be getting better gifts than me this year, all thanks to your thoughtfulness.
Cheers to the little people,
theMic
