Author’s notes: This fic doesn’t mean I necessary like Coop
Nick Cooper dismantled the pseudo-bomb quickly, laying each piece carefully on the table, so he could examine them. He was glad to see that the person who made it was inexperienced, and on top of that hadn’t actually managed to put explosives in the pipe bomb.
It always made Coop feel better when inexperienced bomb makers got away. He had enough crazies to worry about without having to deal with new dangerous ones. Coop heard the clock of black heels on the tile, and knew without looking up that Dr. Samantha Waters had entered the room.
“Hey, Doc, what’s up?” Coop pulled off one of his latex gloves. He set it on the table, and reached into his pocket to pull out a piece of bubble gum. He set the gum on the table, removed the other latex glove, and then unwrapped the gum, popping it into his mouth. He began to chew on it. He knew he had to see her; it was just a bit awkward. He hadn’t seen her since they had broken up. He knew they had broken up because of her stalker, but he didn’t really like it. He wasn’t even sure he knew what to say, the comment he had made to her probably made him sound like an ass.
She walked toward him, and pulled up a stool.
Coop noticed that her blond hair was put in a tight bun, and she was still wearing the same black suit from yesterday. He figured he didn’t need to be making unnecessary comments about her wardrobe.
Samantha gave him a very soft, polite smile. “What can you tell me about this Coop?”
“A dud, no explosives, and where every they got the instructions they got them wrong.” Coop gave her a toothy grin, still working on his gum.
Samantha set her lips together contemplating. She knew she had to work with Coop again, since he was the best of the bomb experts the ATF lent to the FBI, but she hadn’t expected it to be so weird. “I guess that is a good thing.” She found herself saying after a few awkward seconds.
Coop nodded, chewing on the gum. He was tempted to blow a bubble but decided not to. “Yeah, too bad he doesn’t kill as well as he makes bombs.” Coop said with a smack.
Samantha nodded absent mindedly. She got off the stool and walked out of the lab.
