Though neither was sure why, Aaron and Emily had come to an unspoken agreement about their relationship. They never spoke about it at work.
Emily was under the assumption that Aaron had made the decision. It would make sense. She was sure he didn’t want anyone to think that she was valued over any member of the team.
Aaron had just assumed that it was Emily’s doing. She was very good about keeping her private life separate from her professional life.
One day, when everyone had left, Emily was curled on Aaron’s couch reading a book, and Aaron was finishing up some paperwork. He looked up at her with a smile and said, “Is it okay, if I do something at work for you, for Valentine’s?”
Emily almost dropped the book she was reading. She wasn’t sure if he had just made a big step in their relationship or not. It seemed so unlike him to be even thinking of their relationship when they were at work.
He noticed the confusion on her face. Maybe he had been wrong about her deciding to keep it under cover. Maybe she had wanted him reveal it, or maybe she still wanted to keep it a secret. He realized at that instant, it was probably sad that he could not for the life of him figure out what way this conversation may turn. “If you still want to keep it secret, that is fine as well,” He ventured, hoping it covered everything.
What he did not expect was her to start almost giggling.
It made a smile form on Aaron’s face, as she looked so cute when she giggled.
Once she had stopped giggling, she said, “I guess we are both bad profilers. I was assuming we were keeping the relationship because you wanted to, and you were assuming that I wanted to keep it secret.” She let out a small chuckle at the end of the statement.
He got up from his desk, and walked over towards her. He sat down next to her on the couch. “We must have both been impaired by love,“ he leaned over and kissed her softly on the lips.
