Author’s notes: For Meg, as per her request. Also, stay tune for the continuing saga of Philip Nichols in another longer story coming soon(ie the next few months), since the whole prompt was "Philip Nicols childhood. No using Odin. Just what happened with his family that he would grow up and form a cult." and obviously if you read the last part you know it was coming up.
The next morning, Philip opened the door carefully after hearing it being unlocked. Gerard stood in front of the door with a sad smile, if he had enough money to fight Mr. Nichols, Gerard would take Philip away from all of this and adopt him as his own son.
Gerard and Philip walked quietly to the kitchen, where Mrs. Hermes feed them both a hearty meal.
Philip forced himself to eat like a civilized person, though all he wanted to do was scarf everything down greedily. He knew from past experience if he did, word would get back to his father and he would be punished even more. Philip wasn’t in the mood for anymore punishment; he had enough things on his mind than trying to figure out why his father was being unfair to him this time.
“We have to take you to get your glasses fixed, Master Philip. Mister Nichols arranged it all, but it is going to cost you a bit of extra money.” Gerard made sure to keep his voice professional, so that anyone who walked in wouldn’t take the comment in the wrong vein. Gerard was thinking that he might pay for the repair, so that Philip could save his money. It wasn’t that the boy spent that much, but Gerard figured that he was probably saving it for some kind of escape. Edward went through more money on bubblegum and toys than Philip ever had in three months.
Philip just gave a nod as he finished his breakfast.

As they drove home, Philip was still quiet. He stared out the window, as if plotting things through the pattern of the falling rain.
Gerard was concentrating hard on the road, and deciding to honor the boy’s want of silence, when he heard. “Only four more years and I can escape.” It took a few seconds for it to dawn on Gerard that the boy had spoken. “What was that Philip, dear?” He asked, sounding paternal since no one was around. He hoped the fact that he hadn’t heard the statement, didn’t push the boy farther into the isolation in his head.
“Four more years. I’ve plotted it out; in four years I will graduate high school, and for the most part be considered an adult. It will be the perfect time to escape the clutches of my dad. Then, he doesn’t have to worry about me anymore, and he can live with the beloved one. I can go and make my own way and name in the world.” Philip turned and looked over at Gerard, his blue eyes filled with happiness at the prospect of being able to escape.
Gerard found himself laughing. “I believe that is the most words you have spoken in your whole life, Philip, dear.” He turned to glance at the boy for a second, smiling to the boy. He then, turned his attention to the road, not wanting the slick road to get the better of him. “I’ll do anything I can to help you escape.”
“I’ll definitely need your help Gerard; you are the only one I can trust. I know you are about the only one who will keep it a secret.” Philip knew his father had blackmailed Gerard, and it helped him to figure out that Gerard probably hated Royce as much as he did. Anyone could see that Gerard’s hatred towards Royce grew daily, all they had to do was look in Gerard’s eyes.

The next morning, Mrs. Tinders began to talk about the Norse gods. She started with Thor, since he was considered the most well known of the bunch.
For once in Philip’s academia career, he actually wasn’t listening, or even taking notes. He was doodling random things, and occasionally scratching down an encoded note about his plan.
Mrs. Tinders clipped a new picture on the black board. Philip only half looked at it until; she said the figure’s name. “ODIN!”
Something in Philip’s brain sparked, and he sat up straighter. He began to listen to her description of Odin. He was considered the chief god of Norse mythology, and was god of poetry, wisdom, war, magic, prophesy, and death. He sacrificed his eye so he could gain the wisdom of the ages.
Philip wasn’t sure why, but he had a feeling that Odin would somehow play into his destiny. He wrote the name down in big letters on the margin of his page. He also, began to write all the information she was telling the class about the god. He wasn’t sure how yet, but he was sure all the information would come in handy one day.
