My results for the
Vongola Family Quiz were SO CLOSE,
they had to tie-break me with THIS.
Riiight about then I knew that things were NOT LOOKING GOOD.
OH GEE I WONDER HOW I'M GOING TO ANSWER THAT
This is without question the most insulting result I have ever received. Besides being nothing less than:
A SAD AND EPIC TALE OF FAIL

(a) why is there no MUKURO
(b) why do I get typed as Yamamoto when I score just as highly for Tsuna
That said, there is one Yamamoto I've always wanted to make a rec post about, and that's Yamamoto Tsuyoshi. That's right, YamaPapa (hey, that's just what he's been called, and I think it's awfully catchy).
demoerin and I are both of the opinion that he would be our
#1 Choice for Partner in a Buddy Movie. And. I just think he's completely awesome. Samurai masquerading as sushi chef, and from what we've seen and can extrapolate, a wonderfully level-headed awesome fighter you'd want to have at your back in a fight. And as much as I want Yamamoto to run into as many walls as possible ♥, you can't deny that Tsuyoshi did an amazing job of raising Yamamoto. He's stable! Normal! Calm, well-adjusted and sociable - which is more than you can say for nearly everybody in this series! SO THAT'S DONE, on with the:
Yamamoto Tsuyoshi Fic

you'll never be more than alive: On Yamamoto's attempted swan-dive off the Nanimori roof, which is an issue I feel never gets addressed enough in fanfiction, and this handles it beautifully. And it helps immensely that Yamamoto's father's opinion on suicide echoes my own.

Vongola Road Warriors. Driving Lessons and fun for the Whole Famiglia! Also, read the omake, guys. ♥ I especially liked the line, 'Fortunately for them, there are no walls for Yamamoto to crash into'. (Damn)

a door to a room he will not be coming back to: I've rec'd this before, just not on my own journal. TYL!Yamamoto going back in time to meet his father fic. oh my god. Reading this fic made me go, oh, my heart: It genuinely is the kind of fic that could make you blink back tears, for moments like
these:
"If you don't mind," he began, "I'll tell you something I'm going to tell Takeshi someday. You only got so much time in this world to love, then it's all over. The worst thing you can feel in the end is that you never showed your love enough times."
You never said that. Ten years in the future, while Takeshi was away, an army would raid this part of Namimori city, the quiet neighborhood just outside the main commercial district. In the middle of the night they would burst into Takesushi restaurant and start getting knocked down, one by one, until Yamamoto Tsuyoshi was tired and wounded and broken and his aged hands could no longer grip the handle of his faithful old sword.
He would refuse to leave quietly, even when given the option. He would refuse to leave at all.
I would have wanted to hear it, Oyaji.
...
"You don't have to think about your kid every second of your life, you know?" He looked out the door. "If... if you ever find yourself in a position where... he feels he has to go and you want him to stay... for your sake... "
Takeshi heard the scribbling stop. He felt himself being stared at.
"Nah," was the eventual answer. "I don't want Takeshi to regret anything. That's all I want him to do for my sake."
The scribbling sounds resumed. Takeshi shut his eyes. He wanted to say so many things, he wanted to say There are ways, Oyaji. There are ways and ways and ways. If you're pulled in all directions, and everything needs saving, every choice you make spells out regret.
It's a story that I feel I seem to appreciate more as I get older - yes, I know it was written just seven months ago! But the way I saw it then and the way I see it now are entirely different.

fic on how Yamamoto Tsuyoshi almost joined the Vongola, how Tsunayoshi Sawada got his name, and bonus: it's a Yamamoto!origin story, too. (Described memorably as 'Takeshi in a basket').

The Test: This is actually Yamamoto-centric, and is described as 'On first kills, and what it means to be a natural-born assassin'. However, there is Tsuyoshi in it, described (again by author) as 'a smidgen of Yama-papa'.
☆ Bonus! Suguru Inoue's blog entry with
a photograph of him and Takashi Matsuyama:
