Just got back from the Carbon Leaf concert at the Independent in San Francisco. I think my mind has been officially blown.
As I've said before, I've been listening to this band for the better part of a decade now - specifically, since Echo Echo came out back in early '01. Tonight I've come away star-struck. I've put these guys up on a pedestal for eight years, and now I've seen them live and met them. They are nice guys. They shook my hand and thanked me for coming to the show. If I use any more italics this post will collapse from over-emphasis.
Ahem.
I'm still a little over-stimulated from it all. The two hours of sensory bliss so mind-boggling that I can only legitimately compare it to sex (and FANTASTIC sex, at that) still haven't gelled in my mind; the recollections are scattered and fragmented, bouncing from neuron to neuron like a kaleidoscope hooked into a Dolby 5.1 system (Yes, the inside of my mind does usually resemble the iTunes visualizer with surround sound. Why do you ask?).
I've seen amazing concerts. I've seen B.B. King jam with Jeff Beck. I've seen The Who. I've seen Dylan and the Decemberists and Nightwish and all sorts of bands with exquisite showmanship and legendary music. Tonight has eclipsed all that. Tonight, I cried. Tonight, I looked my heroes in their eyes, and they smiled back and shook my hand.
