cheerleader sign-ups!
Cheerleaders are there to encourage writers, artists, and participating betareaders (because betareading fifteen thousand words means sometimes you'll need encouragment). We expect this challenge to be a lot of fun for everyone, and cheerleaders are the people who sign up to help make it even more so.
When signing up to cheerlead, you say that you're going to be available for encouragement and general squee. No, it's not 24/7, or even all the time (we totally understand having a life!), but we do expect everyone to be aware that, when signing up, you're making a committment to the other challenge participants. Cheerleading is important, because, over the term of a long-form fic challenge, everyone will have times they need to have their spirits high.
The joy of cheerleading is that you get to see everyone else tearing their hair out from frustration, and you get to be the one who helps and encourages. We need you guys to keep our spirits high!
Cheerleaders sign up for general multifannish cheerleading, but when you sign up, we're asking you to name the fandoms you're familiar with, and also if you're comfortable with being a general cheerleader for encouragement with any fandoms that people might be writing. That way we can see if you're available to be a cheerleader for a rarer fandom. (We have a lot of rarer fandoms, admittedly. As someone writing a rarer fandom, I appreciate this sort of thing!) General squee and cheerleading help is a thing of love and a joy forever, though, because of the sheer number of rarer fandoms.
When you sign up to be a cheerleader, you agree to allow the mods to put your name in a directory of cheerleaders, which we will then make available to all of the ficathon participants. (We haven't decided if this is going to be on a public Google doc, or if we're going to put a locked post on the comm.) The other participants will then contact you for help and encouragement. Please be sure to only list off contact information that you want to be posted publicly!
