MY HEAD!!! MY HEAD IS BEING SQUEEZED TO NEW AND UNIMAGINABLE LEVELS OF PAIN!!! In other words, I have a horrible headache. Urrrgh. So why am I using the computer, you may ask yourselves? Good question. I don't know.
Yesterday my spanish uncle (Marcos Ordóñez), who is a writer, theatre critic, journalist (sometimes), and university teacher (Woohoo :P. That makes him sound very important, dunnit? He's not very well known, though. :P) gave me one of his books, "Comedia con Fantasmas", which is the story of a guy who gets into the whole world of theatre and stuff, 'cause I think, secretly, he'd like me to get into theatre. He gave me a recording of a play he liked a few days ago. T'was good, too. Anyway, I've always liked theatre but I never got a chance to, er, get very close to it, so I thought it was nice of him. The book was published years ago, but it's just been republished, soft cover version, smaller, and he dedicated that copy to me. You can't not read a book when it's been dedicated to you, now can you? :P Aww. Anyway, I was surprised to see I really like it! I'd never read any of his stuff before, even though my mum's got all his books (obviously). It's cool to have an "author-uncle". Actually, he told me once that the only reason he was writing, was because he's crap at music, 'cause he loves music. He's got a MASSIVE record collection. He's lent me loads of stuff in the past, like Pink Floyd, Beatles, etc. Er, I'm rambling away. Where was I? Ah yes, great book. I only just started it, though. It's weird to think that you're reading something that your uncle, who you see a lot, and lives 2 minutes away from home wrote.
And something else happened yesterday. I don't understand, will I never come out to anyone? It seems as everyone just politely asks me to come out! Yesterday mum asked me "you don't really like girls, don't you?", which lead to the whole coming out conversation that usually follows. Ha, oh yeah, and she also said "I don't mind AT ALL if you're gay, or anything at all, because you know I'm completely open-minded to everything, but I'd just like to let you know at sometimes teenagers go through a phase when they're confused...I'm just saying that because you don't act, or look, or speak, or have anything "gay" about you, and I've met a lot of gay people in my life". Well yes, but if that's true then I've been confused for, er, 4, 5 years? :P She might be right, I have no idea. I doubt it though. I'm sorry Blank, and anyone else, but I'm pretty sure about this. Anyway! It's cool to be out to both your parents. Ah great, my head doesn't hurt any more. Woohoo! Let's celebrate with that meme I saw on halogencycle's journal. Let's see...
Instructions: Pick 5 albums that have had a great impact on your life and talk about a special memory from one song off those albums. Then tag 5 friends.
"Rythm Of Youth" by Men Without Hats:
Ahh, Rythm Of Youth. This album takes me back to when I was 10, 11 years old...I can't remember exactly. Anyway, I was enjoying my SNES and GameBoy years, and my first Internet years. One of the first sites I ever visited regularly was Donkey Kong's Jungle Vine, a brilliant site in its time. It's still alive today, but the webmasters are not the great Aussie Ben, Slush, Chad...and thus the site is not the same at all. Plus, in those days (god, I sound like I'm 70) Rare was still with Nintendo. I loved that site. The humour, mainly. Hilarious articles, great top ten best songs in Rare games, and of course, the live radio broadcasts, in which some webmaster answered e-mails live. In one of Chad's broadcasts, the intro song (the had a song playing before the "action" started) was a really synthy, poppy song with the lyrics "We can dance if we want to...", which I fell in love with instantly. I loved it. I was obsessed with it! And I didn't even know what it was. Luckily, I found soon enough. "Safety Dance", by Men Without Hats. I downloaded it, and a few other songs. I was in love with the band, so I asked for a CD of theirs for christmas. But little did I know that the band weren't active any more, and were really obscure. So what I got was a vinyl record/single, with Safety Dance, and two other songs, cause that was all my parents could find. I still own that record, of course, and I think it's extremely rare, so yay me! Anyway, I didn't find any of their stuff, so I just had those few songs I'd downloaded. Then, 5 years later, I find a Best Of Men Without Hats CD in a shop in town! You can't imagine how fecking' happy I was. I got it, and listened to it all week. All those Jungle Vine, SNES and GameBoy and KoopaVillage years came back to me, and still do every time I listened to Men Without Hats, especially Rythm of Youth, or Folk of The 80s, the album they released just after Rythm, so it sounds very similar. So I got that Best of, but I couldn't find anything else, but that wasn't a problem, because nw I was aware of Amazon.com's existance, and got both Rythm of Youth AND Folk of The 80s over Amazon, both on the same CD! God, the nostalgia. I love that band. And yeah, I'm aware that probably Chad from Jungle Vine was just playing Safety Dance because he thought it was a funny, cheesy song, but I'm glad he did. Thank you. :P
"Pop Goes The World" by Men Without Hats:
I said I downloaded Safety Dance and a few other song after hearing Safety Dance. Well, the other songs were "Pop Goes The World", "On Tuesday" and "Jenny Wore Black", all three from the same album, "Pop Goes The World". I got that CD from Amazon as well. Well, my dad got it for my birthday. I was so happy. That one brings back loads of memories too, and it's one of the best CDs on my shelf. It can be very cheesy at times (it was the 80s :P), but I suppose the fact that I loved the band when I was 10 or 11 years old makes me love it now, you know? Basically, this CD brings back the same kind of memories than the above, so I won't say much more.
Er, I know I'm supposed to talk about 5 CDs, but to be honest, even if I love loads, LOADS of CDs, the only two that "had a great impact on my life" are those two. Er, I suppose others are "ABBA gold", and it may sound silly, but it was the first CD I ever got, when I was very little, then there's "Planeta Escória" by Ska-P, a spanish band. I never listen to it any more, I gave it to a friend, but I used to love it. Every time I hear some song from it, it reminds me of this friend I had in Primary School, who introduced me to the band, and we were great friends, but he's at another school now, and we hardly every see each other. He kind of got me into music, shall we say. And then, well, there's "Believe" by Disturbed, and I never listen to that now, but when I DO, it makes me feel good, for a whole bunch of sentimental reasons, and stuff. That's about it, I think...oh yeah, I would tag 5 friends and all that, if knew what the hell tagging IS. :P
