Africa, the Heartland I Never Knew

Oct 23, 2005 17:38

Why am I not black? This a question that up until last night I never pondered. I was never a wannabe ghetto white girl. I was always minus the bling-bling. And yet, according to a man who lived in the 19th century, I am originally African. This same man led to Social Darwinism, which in essence lets the poor suffer because Gehenim, it's survival of the fittest and they are not fit to live. I never saw the wickedness of Darwin until now. In school, they skip him but they don't tell us why.

I also discovered I had no idea who invented the concept of Heaven and Hell. Neither did my mother. Which proved that yeshiva education filters common knowledge. But I don't regret that I never became a Zoroastrian. I don't like the idea of my dead body being left to the vultures.
