Highlights of Succos thus far:
Tuesday was the Ziegler Family Reunion that my mother and me happened to get invited to, despite our lack of blood relation. Nonetheless, a day with Mordechai Z. is a day spent on cloud nine. That four year old is my future something. I'm very indecisive on what. But he will be my something.
Mordechai has a very clean mouth, but as we were cleaning up his challah and honey mess, I distinctly heard him say, "I really want a martini." Stunned, I stopped cleaning and let the honey drip all over my Shabbos shoes (the black ones with the flowers that I've had since my bat-mitzvah). I said, "Come again." And he repeated the same line. I shot Malkie a nervous glance, but she just smiled and said, "He misses his friend Martin." I cannot be going deaf at sixteen.
Wednesday was more intimate, but less Mordechaish. The topic of conversation at our host's table was Pella- The screen door that opens and closes just by the touch of a finger. Oh joy. Sound the harmonica.
Good news today: my mom is taking me to the city to see Ushpizin. Got to love Israeli movies made by the Orthodox. And afterwards we are going to visit Yaffa's Cafe to see if we can get any free food (since they stole my name).
