Mandatory Draft

Don't get used to public entries. I'm only making this one because it's about something I think is very important.

Yeah, Mr. Myers mentioned this. It's an act of Congress I don't think will ever pass.

There's just no way.

If Bush gets reelected, there's that period of grace where Congress will pass anything he wants them to.

But the thought of there being actual legislationon the floor right now completely shocks me. It's not just a hypothetical "Will They or Won't They?" situation anymore. Someone is actually trying to pass it.

I truly hope you're right, though, even if I have little faith in the political process.

It's shocking to see, but highly doubtful. If it's shocking to us, think about the members of the House and Senate that are still trying to pick their jaws up off the floor.

I really don't think he wants it passed. It would be Vietnam re-born.

Bush truly thinks he can do anything! This is an outrage to every 18-26 year old who has/has not chosen to serve their country in that manner. If Bush is re-elected, I have no doubt that the end result will be WW3. The rest of the world is already upset with the US. If Bush enstates the Draft, I shudder to think of the chain of events that would ensue.

Yeah, because re-instating the draft in the U.S. of A is going to trigger a world war.

Please. No other country is going to care. Yeah, we are in a lot of this bullshit because of Bush's bad decisions, but the thought of WWIII starting is completly ridiculous.

Everyone just chill.

Kristen, that reply was just rude.

He didn't say that re-instating the draft would cause another world war. He said that re-electing Bush could cause another world war.

Think about how pissed off many countries are with us now. During Bush's final four years, he wouldn't have to worry about being re-relected. He could do whatever the hell he wanted to do, especially with a Republican Senate.

I think that you are the one that needs to chill, especially when we're on the same side.

I apologize...I let my sarcasm get the best of me but I really think that this whole ordeal is ridiculous.

Either way, the prospect of WWIII starting because of silly little Bush is doubtful. As much as I dislike him, I just don't see it happening at the moment. If it does, so shoot me.

Countries are always pissed off at each other. I know his decision SHOULD HE BE re-elected will cause more drama than the damn man is worth...but let's not get so hyped up over a bill that isn't going to pass.

and here i thought bush might actually be a wise choice with all of kerry's flip flop voting and what not. i was actually looking forward to voting, but noooo there had to be strings attached, like me not getting an education and being killed in iraq! stupid texan... too close to mexico (jk, nothing against mexico, i may flee there if this happens)lol. my father was drafted into vietnam and that is the last time it should happen, there is enough active duty military to do that, my dad has already gone over there and i'll be damned if im forced to join the military as a piss ant private!they have enough damn pilots going through that there should be enough there. i mean hell, get officers out of their desk jobs and actually make them do some manual labor, my dad had to! there are enough ppl sitting behind desks in the military getting paid to do nothing that it's irritating... this is stupid and bush should just lighten up with his war mongaring. get the UN to kick in, thas an entire continent that SHOULD be at our disposal!

First off...it's not flip-flopping. The man changed his mind. Ever make a decision then change your mind? Yeah, happens to me all the time.

I'm pretty damn near sure you'll get an education and won't be sent off to Iraq. You are right in saying that there are plenty of troops. Bush has stated this already. He says that there is no need to re-instate the draft because of the abundance of troops and volunteers.

Abundance of troops? Surely from living by a military base, you learned that there is a shortage of people entering the military.

And volunteers? Ha. Keep telling yourself that.

Inhale. Exhale. Breathe.

Dominare pointed out what is being ignored. HR 163 was proposed on January 7, 2003. Saddam was given 48 hours to leave Iraq on March 18, 2003. The bill was proposed before we even attacked Iraq. I am sure we all remember how suddenly the entire Iraq deal came to pass. This is old news. Old news about something DEMOCRATS wanted to do. You cant blame this one on Bush. Blame other things on him, yea; I know he has screwed up, but damn. This one cant be blamed solely on him.

I love Dee and her research.
And thank you Dominare for posting that.

Let's all just stop flipping out now.

Ah, but it made for interesting debate.

Freaking out at the thought that it could even be possible is completely normal. It's something that most of us are terrified of and never really thought possible. Now, our country is involved in warS and spreading our troops out thinly, and even if this instance isn't anything to worry about, it could very well come up again soon.

And I'm a hippy. I can blame whatever I want to on Bush. It just works that way. (just kidding...kind of.)

Yes, wars is correct. Terrorist networks expand on huge scale. The call is simple: We need more troops and we need international support as well.

Anyways, no grudges against any of you guys. You're all American and we have plenty of enemies hating us just for that now.

I'm very scared of being drafted myself (and if this is how the DEMOCRATS 'oppose' war, I'm even more afraid than THAT of being called up!)

Not THE democrats, just a few of them.

Trust me, the party as a whole doesn't feel this way.
