KRAFTNITE (part 2 of a three part series*)

Initially, I started this group about three years ago as a structured way to be social. I had just moved back in with my parents after college and was lonely and generally directionless. So every Thursday night, 2 friends from high school came over and sat in the dining room with me to work on something or another, all together now. My early projects were almost always embroidering (I had just taught myself).

I started collecting more friends VERY slowly, and started working the B-shift at work. So Kraftnite shifted to Sunday nights, sometimes at my parents' house, but sometimes out and about at a coffee shop. The group sort of stopped for a few months when I took a bizarre turn to hanging out with a new group of people to watch the L-Word every Sunday night. ??? Ahahhahaha. And talk on the phone with someone important on Sundays.

When I moved into my new house, Kraftnite started back up hardcore! There was an instant group in my housemates, and collectively, we started meeting new people. Some weeks, it's a super ruckus in the house. Other weeks, it's really low key, sometimes just my housemates and me. We've had up to 15 people running around. We made a campfire one week; sometimes people bring food; sometimes there's lots of yelling and overlapping talking. It got to be way too overwhelming for me a couple of times, and I abruptly ran away to my attic. I tried to break down all the reasons, which was both helpful and a dead-end. The only solution, I decided, was to mix things up. Sometimes have it out of the house at a coffee shop so I don't feel so responsible to be a "host." Lately, we've been alternating every week between coffee shops and the house, and that really balances it out.

On average, I'd say the group is around 8 people per week. I'm really happy about how it's evolved and how people return week after week.

*Lately I have been thinking in terms of grouping.
