Regan listened to her dad and slowly nodded. She could do this. She had to do this. Her mother's life was riding on it. If she couldn't get this done, then her mom would be lost to them forever. "I know," Regan whispered to her dad as she wrapped her fingers over the handle of the scythe. Her mind started to focus on it when she heard a voice.

"Rupes? You gotta get better security 'round here! Look what I found wanderin' about."

Regan turned to see Spike, and some blond girl, standing there. The girl rolled her eyes and moved into the training room. "I heard you were taking on some demon and might need some help," she said before looking at Wesley. "Hey, Wes."

Giles sighed and looked at the two. "Regan, this is Buffy. Buffy, this is Wesley's daughter Regan. We're teaching her how to use the scythe," he explained.

"Just pretend it's someone ya hate. Works for me," Spike said with a toothy grin. "So, Percy, how's it feel to be back in the mother country?"

While Spike was speaking to Wesley, Buffy stepped over and crouched down beside Regan. "A little word of advice? The weapon only looks intimidating. You're the one that controls it," she said with a small smile.

Regan nodded and looked down at the scythe. It was just a weapon. No different from the half-sword she'd once had, except the scythe was bigger, but she knew she could do this. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath and lifted the weapon off the ground. It was easier this time and she stood there, holding it, while waiting for someone to tell her what to do next.

"Put one foot in front of the other to balance yourself out," Buffy said. When Regan had gotten into her stance, Buffy nodded. "Now, swing."

With all her power, Regan swung the scythe and watched as it easily cut through the dummy Giles had provided. She didn't fall over, or drop the weapon. "Thank you," she told Buffy with a smile.

When Spike interrupted the session, Wesley was about to give the vampire a piece of his mind until he saw Buffy walk into the training room. It had been a long time since he had seen her. Getting up, he smiled at her.

"Hello, Buffy," he greeted before Rupert introduced her to Regan. He then looked over at Spike when he asked his question. Was he actually trying to be nice to him? "It's...a bit strange in a way. It's been so long, I had almost forgot how different some things were."

"Hey, try dealing over one-hundred fifty years of differences sometime," Spike told him, crossing his arms. "I still expect the London Underground to be actual steam trains sometimes. Not that I've had a chance to get back to London this time."

As Spike started talking about things that had changed, Wesley looked over at his daughter and Buffy, noticing that Regan had managed to get the weapon off the ground. Then, with Buffy giving her some tips, she managed to swing the scythe and cut the dummy in two.

"That was fantastic, sweetheart," Wesley said, looking over at Buffy. "Obviously, you have the touch when it comes to helping her with this. I don't think Rupert or I were doing her much good at all."

"Well, it's a Slayer weapon, and I've used it before, so I know all the tricks," Buffy said before looking over to Regan. "You want me to stay and run through this with you for a bit? "

After two long days of training and research, it was finally time to go to the sacred land to get Fred back. Regan was nervous as they drove through the night to where they needed to go. She knew she could pick up the scythe and swing it, but she was worried about what Illyria might do. Even though the demon agreed to help, Regan still didn't trust it. Hopefully, things would work out and soon she would have her mother back.

When they arrived, all of them got out of the cars and waited for Willow to draw a magical circle in the grass. It was cold out there and Regan could feel herself shivering. After a few instructions from Willow, Illyria and Regan stood in the circle as the keeper from the Deeper Well stood nearby. With the scythe in her hands, Regan stared at Illyria.

"Would you like me to fight?" the demon asked.

"No," Regan said. "I just want you gone."

Her dad had told her where to stab the sycthe, and as Illyria looked at her, her icy blue eyes turning brown, Regan sliced the scythe through the demon's body. The force of it knocked Regan back and the field was illuminated with a bright light. The keeper stepped forward and Regan watched as parts of Illyria were sucked into a small box. Then everything went dark again.

Regan looked up and saw her mother's body lying in the middle of the circle. "Mom!" she cried out as she scrambled to her feet. Before she could get there, Willow stopped her.

"There's a field protecting her right now. Part of the spell will break it down. But you need to step back and let us do this," she calmly said.

Regan nodded and stepped back as she kept her eyes on her mothers body. Suddenly, the sounds of cars pulling up grabbed her attention and she turned to see two black SUVs pull up. Roger got out of one of them and gaped at them.

"Boy! What are you doing? What have I told you about bringing people back from the dead? Have you no respect?" Roger barked at Wesley.

"You don't belong here," Regan said as she stood between her grandfather and father. Using her powers, she caused the SUV's door to open and hit Roger in the back. The older man fell to the ground.

"We're take care of them. You lot get Fred back," Spike said as Faith and he stepped up beside Regan.

Wesley stood outside the circle on the land of the Abbey, the book in his hands, watching his daughter and Illyria face each other. He knew that they had to do this - he just prayed that it worked and they hadn't been led here just to find that it was all for nothing. He wanted to hold Fred again so badly. He wanted his daughter to have her mother back.

Within moments, Regan sliced the scythe through Illyria, and Wesley saw glittering dust moving through the air into the box the keeper held. He looked down at the book, his eyes on the spell. As he started to open his mouth to say something, though, everything went dark, obscuring the words, and he heard Regan yelling out for her mother. His eyes ticked up - her body was in the middle of the circle. How much time did they have?

Then he heard it. That voice. That voice he had feared growing up. Wesley turned in time to see Regan throw his father back against the car and stepped forward only to have Rupert put his hand on his arm.

"Spike's right - you don't have much time, Wes," his friend said as he switched on an electric torch so he could read.

Nodding, Wes looked over at Regan, then at the empty body of his wife before holding the book up to recite the words. "Voi che ha preso l'anima che appartiene a questo corpo per proteggerla, li ringraziamo."

"If you know what's good for you, mates, you'll take Grandpa here and go the fuck away," Spike was saying behind him.

"L'infezione del demon è stata rimossa dalla destra del bambino ed il corpo attende il ritorno dell'anima."

"You can't bring her back!" an unfamiliar voice insisted. "You'll mess everything up!"

"Liberi l'anima del nostro caro e lascila rinviare al relativo posto legittimo."

"Hey, back off, Bucko!" Faith yelled, and suddenly, there was a scuffle, followed by a scream and a thud. Wesley started to turn, but Rupert shook his head.

"Wesley, the spell!" he hissed.

Elemosiniamo di voi con questa richiesta e sacrifichiamo. Restituisca l'anima. Restituisca la vita. Rinvii!"

A bright light engulfed the circle, causing everything around them to almost turn to daylight. When the light died away, leaving Fred's body on the ground, Rupert took the book from him and he took Regan's hand and moved forward. The circle was gone, so they were able to enter it, and he dropped down to the ground, hesitately reaching out.

"Fred?" he asked softly. "Please be back, my love. Please."

Regan could hear her father behind her, chanting the spell. She watched as her grandfather stood, and stepped toward him. “You should leave,” she said as she blocked him from getting any closer to her dad. “You should take everyone and leave.”

“You’re just like your father,” Roger hissed.

“I’m not. My dad’s a genius and I have a lot to learn before I could ever be as smart as him,” she said as she held her grandfather in place.

Soon, Faith was fighting with one of the Council members. Before anyone could stop it, the man fell back and hit his head against a rock. Roger turned to help his friend, only to stare up at Faith. “He’s dead,” he said.

Regan stood there for a moment and watched as the Council left. She looked over her shoulder and saw her dad kneeling beside her mom. With the scythe still in her hand, Regan ran over to them and knelt down. “Mom?” she whispered.
