Crampton Hodnet is a re-read. This is a very early Barbara Pym and was not published until after her death. It is fun to see the early incarnations of such favorite characters is Miss Morrow and Miss Doggett and the Clevelands.
Poison Study - Maria Snyder. Saw these when I still worked at Borders. The first two came into Half Price and since I had nothing checked out, thought I would give them a try. Well-written, the sex is mild enough I could probably let my 14 year old read them. Why does Yelena encounter so many men who want to torture and rape her? I love how Snyder develops the ‘threads of magic’ that Patricia Wrede invented for her Dragons series (as far as I know this is a Wrede invention).
Magic Study - Maria Snyder. Yelena lives to have another adventure. More mean men trying to capture, torture and rape her (can’t there be something else trying to get her - maybe in Fire study). Even though she is (of course) the most powerful magician in over a hundred years, she still can’t light a candle, unless she harnesses another magician’s power. Guess that is why the third book is called “Fire Study”. Which I will find somewhere and read. Off to place a hold at the library.
