Yesterday morning's interview was the latest in a continuing series - and, in fact, the last. Hopefully at this point, I'll actually get an offer - since the alternative involves going around the houses again, during and after exams.
Anyway, the interview seemed to go quite well; they asked me technical questions, I answered them. There were some other interview-like aspects, in which they notably failed to ask questions that made me feel awkward. As seems to be the case for most interview processes, at least a third of the time was spent with them trying to sell the company to me.
Anyway, come this morning, via ECM, I hear "We would very much like to be able to offer Tom a job, but we need to find out and plan a few more things in order to convince ourselves it is financially sound to expand our staff now."
Which is pretty encouraging, since they were interviewing me on spec, rather than for any particular position - and they have some sort of two-way dialog process to go through with the next level of management, before they can actually spend money. (He phrased it in terms of 'making a business case' yesterday).
So, I'm now up from the level of 'we would employ you... if you knew more X' to either employment, or, failing that 'we would employ you... if we had more X' - which has to be better.
Oh, and my Part III Essay just needs tweaks and an introduction. With 6 days left. Huzzah.
