On the Subject of Fascinations

May 15, 2014 22:36

Me, to dragonarya:
"I think magic is a good fascination, as far as fascinations go."

dragonarya:
"As opposed to...murder?"

Me:
"As opposed to celery root, perhaps. Murder and magic have depth and levels and so much potential. There's only so much potential in celery. Someone fascinated with it might have a lucrative career as a farmer of genetically engineered celery but that's hardly got a market demographic to target. [...] Point being there's only so far you can go with celery. I think that would be an unfortunate fascination."

Whereupon she told me that the line, "Celery is an unfortunate fascination," had to be immortalized somewhere, and I scurried on over here to inscribe it upon the surface of the internets forever.

Bonus quotes:

Le Bro, on the subject of cows and the fact that they are known to have best friends:
"If I were a cow, I would have a best friend. It would probably be a fence post."

Me, to dragonarya, in a moment of spectacular stupidity concerning the Toronto Zoo:
"So, um, we kind of have a lot of animals, I guess."
(From the official Toronto Zoo website: "The Toronto Zoo is Canada's premier zoo with over 5000 animals representing +460 species in various Regions and Pavilions based on geographical locations." That really is, um, kind of a lot of animals. I guess.)
