Hefner Monologues Updates: New Show

Nov 11, 2007 15:02

My brand-new show, THE HEFNER MONOLOGUES: HOW HEFNERIAN, has been submitted to the 2008 DC Capital Fringe Festival. The actual script has not been written yet, but I know exactly what stories will be in there.

I'm putting aside the show about my family (SON OF THE HEFNER MONOLOGUES) until I've had more time to reflect and recover from Dad's death. Also, I suppose I do worry about offending or embarrassing my grandmother (mentioned prominently and unflatteringly in "My Grandfather's Last Words"), and wonder if I can get away with doing this show without her knowing.

Meantime, my revised original HEFNER MONOLOGUES show will be going up December 1st at Washington College (free admission) and the 10th and 11th at Baltimore's Hamilton Arts Center, courtesy of my awesome producers at Zero Hour.

It's a dead time of season for theatre, but with proper promotion and lack of competition, that could well work to my advantage. I've contacted the Baltimore Sun for a Calendar Listing, if not a full-out article and/or review.

ATTENTION BALTIMORE PEEPS: Are there any other Baltimore area papers I should try to court? Smaller ones are fine; I'm also trying to establish contacts with reporters who may be moving up in the world. They could be at a small paper today, but in a year or two, they could be at major outlets, and it'd be great having those contacts.

Also, any particularly good places to leave posters/fliers?

I need to start applying for other Fringe Festivals. I'm currently considering San Francisco, Minnesota, Boulder, Cincinnati, Orlando, and Montreal.

The trick is money (not so much making it, which would be awesome, but mainly not losing it). Montreal apparently will cost me little over $650 to put on an hour and fifteen minute long show. Now, I get 100% of the ticket money, for which I can charge up to $9 Canadian, so theoretically I can make it all back and be fine. But still, it's rather scary.

Orlando's application is due Thursday, that's the first one due. It's a hugely intimidating prospect, applying to these crazy-pants things. The stress for CapFringe this year alone was near-overwhelming. But now's the time to do this like Brutus.
