Fabulous Friday Recs - FIC RECS: S7 FitB
Hi, everyone! From now on, every Friday theheartofspn will try to bring you some of the best brotherly recs you can find in this wonderful fandom. Today's theme is Season 7 FitB. For those who are not familiar with this acronym, it simply means 'Fill in the blank' aka stories that can perfectly fit (and fill) between the spaces of episodes or scenes enriching the canon timeline without disrupting it.
We hope you enjoy these FitB for season 7! They have certainly become headcanon for some of us, and we promise they're not to be missed!

Author's Summary: A totally self-indulgent missing scene type thing from the finale.
Notes by Reccer: She can call it self-indulgent, but the idea of Sam and Dean hanging out in the Impala and basking in having their home back fits so naturally into the finale, one almost wonders why some form of it wasn't included in the episode. Totally an insta!canon idea for me.

Author's Summary: Dean and Sam take a break from their search for the Leviathans to investigate a series of deaths in a small town in New Mexico. A confrontation with the killer leaves Dean blinded. He must find a way to cope with the aftermath and deal with the extra "gift" he has been given, a gift that threatens to expose Sam's worst fears. Spoilers up through episode 7.10.
Notes by Reccer: Blind!Dean with a twist. It uses post-7.10 canon and the S7 arc of the boys from that point and pushes in onward through this creepy MOTW story. This could easily fit in the season as a missing episode between 7.11 and 7.12, and it would have been one of my favorites of the season, it fits so effortlessly into canon. And yet she actually one-ups canon, because she injects more of that S1-S3 brotherly feel between Sam and Dean than anything that was in S7, both in just how well they work with one another and know each other but also in conflict, in how they challenge each other, and propel each other forward through the narrative. I truly miss that that has been more and more MIA over the years, and this fic is a perfect example of where canon could improve in S8.

Author's Summary: Missouri didn't expect to see them again. And for all her psychic powers, she could not have foreseen how much they changed. Spoilers up to episode 7.02.
Notes by Reccer: Outsider POVs are really difficult to do, but when they are done well, the result is simply outstanding. This story is situated early in Season 7, neither Sam or Dean are faring too well, and they appear at Missouri's door (another sorely missed character) in need of short break. Missouri feels real here, and through her knowing eyes we get to see even more clearly how much the brother's have changed along the years and how much heavier their burden has become. But we also get to understand and appreciate how, in spite of all the darkness surrounding their lives, their unconditional love and their need to take care of each other (more often than not disregarding their own situation) is still the light at the end of the tunnel and the glue that keeps them together.
