Title: Lack
Pairing: Dan/Elijah
Rating: PG-13

On bright mornings, Dan wakes up before Elijah. He experiences freshly woken feelings of disorientation, of doubt, of self-loathing, all that happen typically just before he rubs his eyes and just after he runs his tongue between his lip and teeth to wet the dry sticky feeling there. And then he remembers where he is. Remembers that Elijah is used to being woken by the smell of coffee and that, as he hasn't put any on yet, he probably has a few minutes left to lie in their bed and not think about leaving. But these mornings are never his.

*

On loud evenings, Elijah is all Dan sees. This goes beyond the realities of together and yes exactly and fuck all, which happen typically louder as the number of drinks consumed rises. He's lost where he is, and yet it is the kind of lost that makes one feel as if one has found something. He remembers the name of the club, of the neon blue drink, of Elijah's friends, and each piece of information stretches time like clay between his fingers. He has hours to put his hands all over Elijah, to kiss Elijah's mouth. These evenings are his.
