SPN: What are your thoughts about John Winchester - in canon, in fanon, I general?
I'm really torn about John. On one hand, he seems like the worst father in the world, heaping too much responsibility on Dean at too young an age, and ignoring or not accepting Sam for who he is, and never developing a relationship with him. He was far too strict with his boys. On the other hand, maybe he was just doing the best he could in a terrible situation.
I always find the flashback eps with young John particularly heartbreaking. He's so innocent and optimistic about the future, and he loves Mary so very much. So different than the broken man we saw in S1.
I'm also curious as to where John is now. No one in heaven seemed to be able to find him. I'm sure it was just a throw away sort of line because JDM was unavailable, but I'd love for them to follow up on that storyline.
