One of my cousins is getting married this weekend, which has brought me back to England. Her fiancée seems a nice chap. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting him too often, but what I have seen of him seems good. They already have a flat together, so I suppose the event is largely ceremonial, but I wish them the best of luck anyway. The event promises to be joyous, good food, good music, good company, and, best of all, I don’t have to lift a finger. A welcome change from the last big family gathering over Christmas.
It feels good to be here. The last time I was in England was over two years ago. I know how that sounds, but for me it’s a long time. When I was younger my parents brought me over at least once, sometimes twice, a year. I suspect this trend will only increase as I get older. Coming less for visits and more for special events, the next time I’m here might be for a funeral, which I find sad.
Among the things I’ve missed the most in England is the food. I know there are a lot of jokes about how ghastly English cooking is. Let me just say that these jokes are vile slander. Last night my Grandparents fed me a huge plat full of traditional English sausages, which were to die for. Tonight we ate a nicely cook lamb with an exquisite home made gravy. I’m hoping that I can get a lesson in making Yorkshire pudding from my Grandmother, but there may not be time. I’ve already tried it once on my own to less than satisfactory results.
Of course London is a cosmopolitan city and foods of foreign origin are also available. If any of you should ever find yourself over here I recommend you try the Crepe stand in Hampstead. I recommend you try the Crepe Complete, a savoury crepe made with ham, cheese, and egg.
My father cannot drive a stick shift. He has made claims to the contrary, but I say that these claims are false. Normally I would not rag on him about this subject, I can’t drive a stick shift either, however he has decided to rent a stick shift this year and I have to ride in it. I haven’t been this terrified since a particularly reckless cabby in China.
While I’m over here I’m trying to find a copy of book that hasn’t been released in the U.S.A. Unfortunately I can’ remember the book’s name or author. Can anyone help me? The story involves a group of adventures trying to recover series of gemstones that are embodiments of Gods. ::rolls eyes:: I’m sure I’ll find something to read. Even if it’s not the books I’m looking for.
No offence to Caleb Carr, but I’ve given up on the Alienist. Not sure why but I just can’t get into it.
