Upsetting the natural order

Yesterday my SO and I went bowling with some friends of ours who had some coupons for free bowling. My SO first convinced me to go bowling about a year ago now and I was surprised by how fun it is. I had thought it was a dorky Wonder Bread America thing.

I wish I had known how fun it was sooner because my step-dad used to bowl before his hands started giving him trouble and it would have been nice to have an activity to share with him. There has been a fair amount of awkwardness between my step-dad and my sister and I, but he's a decent guy and really good to Mom and I wish we could have learned how to feel like a family before me and my sister grew up and moved out. Better late than never, but I wish we all had figured out some things while we could have really used the information (like bowling is fun).

But anyway, here's the part that upsets the natural order: of the four of us playing yesterday I have the least bowling experience, and I won. It was bizarre. I call it Life Imitates Tekken Bowl.

Tekken Bowl is this bonus game on one of the Tekken games that my SO somehow convinced me to play. The character I would always choose was this skinny bishi guy (I want to say he was called Mustang, but I haven't played it in at least two years and am probably totally wrong) who couldn't get any speed on the ball, but was easy to control. I got good at using this guy and could get a fair amount of strikes with him, and since the ball was never moving more than 30 virtual MPH we called it Wussy Strike.

Me bowling is just like that, except my own arm isn't as easy to control as the virtual bishi fighter so I don't get as many strikes. My friends commented that they were always wondering if the ball was actually going to reach the pins: it was truly moving at a crawl. But I did get two strikes and a few spares and knocked something down in almost every frame.

The other upset to the natural order is how freaking warm it's been the past two days. Two weeks ago it was snowing in the mornings, right now it is 71 degrees outside. My desktop weather thingie says tomorrow will be 60 degrees. WTF? It's mid-March and it feels like late June!

The guy who does PostSecret is going to be at Powell's City of Books on the 17th. It's only a couple hours away on Greyhound, but I don't have money to get up there. :( Hopefully my sister will go.

so, weather, bowling, friends, family
