so, i am still in accra. i'm leaving tomorrow. it's been soooo so much fun--the dutch girls are awesome, and now corrine's family is here, and so now we're a big group. but we've had a really good time.
thursday night we went to a "party," which was really live music at a club. there were tons of people there, and a bunch of students from NYU who were drinking like fish, i guess because you can't drink in the states until you're 21, and these people were my age. so..anyway, there were lots of foreigners and really good music, and we went with mike (corrine's friend) and his friend alex, who i danced with and had a really good time with. we all had fun, but we left kind of early because ing gets bored with clubs (and so do i).
friday we went to cocoa beach, but really we went to a beach resort on cocoa beach, and sat in the shade drinking cokes with gideon, corrine's ghanian lover. (i don't know what the two of them have to talk about, but they seem to be happy with it, whatever it is.) we laid out for a little while, but it was really cloudy, so i didn't get burnt, which was nice. after that we got dinner and went to some sidestreet, with gideon, schoolboy, kennedy, and robert, these four crazy guys who were taking us out for the evening. we went to joker's, this euro-pop bar with lots of hookers and bad music and white people, and had a very interesting time. ing and i drank too much, except i'm just a nice drunk who loves everyone. ing wants to fight everyone, and so yeah..it was crazy. we played pool with hookers, and ing is really good at pool and beat them all, but then she got drunk and made a bet with a man that whoever lost pool had to take off their pants, haha..no pants got taken off but it was really funny. and then we danced, but schoolboy (yes, schoolboy, and he claims he brought salsa dancing to ghana, and he's like 20) and robert and kennedy were all being really creepy and annoying, and gideon was always with corrine, and so it was not easy to dance decently with the people there. also, a man from cypress kept hitting on me by telling me he was married...weird. luckily, alex came to the club at like 2 in the morning, and we danced (and he is actually a really nice, decent, not-after-anything guy, and not a creepy dancer), and so he kind of saved the day. he also made ing and i go outside, and we sat at a table with strangers, and ingabora almost got us killed. the man at the table said that he was nigerian, and then she goes, "oh, all nigerians are criminals!" and i wanted to die just then. and then we talked to these people from lebanon (who, oddly enough, we keep seeing everywhere at the beach and at resaraunts and stuff, which makes this really funny). some guy wanted to give ing his number, and she said, "no! i don't want to be associated with al qaeda!" and i thought i would die then too. and then we kept seeing them around..finally we asked them yesterday if they were the same guys, but they said that they remembered us but didn't remember what ing said..so that was lucky. and then we ate hamburgers at 4:00 in the morning..yep. it was crazy.
saturday i guess we went to la badie beach, and met up with gideon and kennedy and alex and everyone..it was good. and then we picked up corrine's family from the airport, and went out for a drink and dinner and stuff with them, and that was nice. kind of a lazy day, but we were all tired at the end of it, for no reason.
yesterday we went on a kind of tour of accra with mike, the guide that ing and corrine know from the last time they were here in ghana. it was fun, but my nose got sunburnt and it was hot. then we went to the beach, where i'm pretty sure i stayed under an umbrella or roof the entire time. we of course saw kennedy (he works at the beach and is in love with ing), gideon, robert, and some random friends of theirs that are rasta boys. then a friend from long ago in ghana, papa, had a dance show and we went and saw him dance, and it was really funny. then we left and went out to dinner and a movie, and the dinner was delicious, but the movie was nigerian, and it was the worst movie i've ever seen. in some parts, you could see the camera man's shadow, and there was every dramatic element in the movie that you could possibly imagine--hookers, pimps, suicide, murder, the wrath of god, betrayal, kidnapping, all sorts of things..it was so awful. i slept through some of it. by choice. i figured sleeping would be better than watching it..oh it was so bad. but so bad that it was funny.
today all i've done is eat breakfast and come here. i think ing and i will eat something and then go to the wrangler store just to look around, and then i need to go to koala to take a look--apparently it's a store and supermarket with all kinds of Western things, so who knows what goodies i'll find. anyway, should be interesting. i'm leaving tomorrow with corrine and her family, and aggie is coming today. ing leaves on wednesday, and by then i'll be back in the office..doing nothing.
i hope you guys all had a great weekend! i'm having a blast and i come home in 18 days!!
also, i'm not sure if i told you this or not, but apparently my cousin met Bush (actually he stumbled into my cousin coming around a corner of the Civil Rights Museum) and managed not to punch him in the face. impressive.
also, among other things in accra, i have been shown a man named nicholas's stash of pot (he wanted to give it to us), been hit by a horse (accidentally, but i still fell over), been sung about by rastas on the beach, been given nutella as a present from the hollanders, and had fake nails put on from the girls' nail lady. it's been crazy, and i love it.
