When the fuck will the stupid World Cup be over? It feels like I've been watching insufferable jackasses jumping on the Euro-cultural-cache train for months and months. It's yet another annoying thing about university life: people who hate sports pretend to be interested in soccer during the World Cup because, since uncultured (evil/repressed/graceless) Americans apparently don't play soccer and because soccer can therefore never be a bad thing, it is a sport for "smart" people. No, it's not even that - it's an art. It's a sin to not want to watch soccer. And because I pretend to be passionately invested in soccer, I will appear miles above the rest of the football-watching (NOT THE REAL FOOTBALL, AS I WILL LOUDLY DECLARE SEVERAL TIMES EACH DAY) uncouth American lumpenproletariat. Yeah, maybe it would be a workable strategy if every other brand-new-jersey-wearing retard in the bar weren't doing the exact same thing.
Q: Do you think that the girls are impressed because we're pretending to be totally wrapped up in the soccer game, and turning around ever two minutes to check?
A: NO. Loving a sport is bad enough, but pretending to love it because you incorrectly assume that it's the most "cultured" and therefore the most "sexy" of all the various sporting options? Is super-crazy-retarded pathetic. Nice Manchester United scarf, dork.
I can't wait until this stupid World Cup is over so that stupid loser university boys and girls will go back to realizing that nobody will ever lay them, whether they pretend to like soccer or not.
