So Brian e-mailed me this morning asking me for the title of the talk I'll be giving for that inauguration thing, so they could start advertising it. I wrote back and explained that I was having some trouble picking a paper, since all of my 'nice' papers are mostly explorations of a psychoanalytic concept with film as seconday, and all of my film-focussed papers are totally deviant things about sadism, dismemberment, violence, etc. Not really appropriate for the opening of the Visual Resources Centre. Brian wrote back saying that nobody would mind a paper about gross shit, as long as films were mentioned a lot and the subject matter wasn't too esoteric (aw, no unveiling of my paper on lamella and shame to a, um, 'rapt' audience. But hey, Lisa hasn't even returned that paper to me yet, so for all I know it was total shit and I should never speak of it again).

Any way, so I'm looking through pretty much every paper I've written in the past 3-4 years, and realizing that all of my papers are so boring. I'm boring! My papers are unfriendly and nobody wants to listen to them. Actually, that's not true. I have one paper that's perfect for open-ended talks like this one, and that's my paper on Svankmajer and food. Everyone likes that paper. Everything else, though? Žžžžž...
