Hawai'i ~ Day Four ~ Dolphin Encounter!

Jul 13, 2008 10:51

This was our Dolphin Quest day at the Kahala Resort !

We started with a healthy, hearty breakfast at the Hula Grill again.
Love that place! Excellent food and surroundings.

Sis had Honey Roasted Granola with tropical dried fruit medley with vanilla yoghurt

I had Hula Eggs Benedict with Portuguese sausage, lemon hollandaise and papaya relish

After breakfast, we caught the tail-end of the 16th Filipino Parade and Fiesta

I liked the walking boxing ring

The local police reminded me of Queen’s Bicycle Race song.

Ready… Set…

GO!

Ding Ding!

We decided a cab would be the best way to get to the Dolphin Encounter;
the bus would take us over an hour with many stops, whereas a taxi was about 25 mins.

The view of the street and houses on the way there.
I wish my street looked like this...all lined with dreamy palm trees!

We soon arrived at the The Kahala Resort. This was the foyer. Whoa.
This place is luxury bigtime.

A closer look at that coloured glass chandelier

Our first view of where we would meet the dolphins

These orchids were on the stunning "orchid wall" on the steps down to the dolphin, pool and beach

The Dolphin Encounter entry.

Part of the dolphin's home

Our first view of the inhabitants!

Why, hello!

It wasn't quite time for the encounter yet, so we explored the area

The glittering pool. We weren't allow to swim in there, not being guests.
I thought that was a bit rough considering we had paid for the Encounter!
Not that they would have known I suppose, since I didn't notice that guests
were tagged or anything like that :P

The private beach.

We had lunch at the Plumeria Beach House just near the pool by the beach.

We shared super crispy onion rings

and a grilled vege and tofu sandwich with tasty dressing

Heading back to the Dolphin Encounter, and it was lunchtime for the dolphins!

I can has fishburger?

Plenty of fishies to go around!

And games to play

And then it was our turn!

It was an absolutely incredible experience. Our trainer, Jen was just lovely and very informative.
She told us about dolphins, the enviroment they live in, how they train and look after them.

The dolphins only do the things they feel like doing and we got to feed them, swim, kayak,
pat and do tricks with them! It was just amazing. Their sense of fun, their speed, the
way they look at you. So friendly and beautiful. I can't believe we got to swim with them!

Sorry, I only have these 'proof' pics which I got from the website...
