Make Mine Vintage!

I have no idea when this obsession of mine towards retro and vintage started. Somewhere from my steampunk phase (I'm still in my steampunk phase) and during my couple of years in the library technician program I started liking the Roaring 20s and that has now moved on to include the Dirty 30s, the Wartime 40s, all the way to the early 60s though not as much; anything pre-50s really. There's something very glamorous and seductive about the silhouettes in a time before Forever 21, and H&M. (Come to think of it, I've never stepped into either store even though there are locations in my hometown. I've passed them frequently but have never been in them. Huh, weird.)

It doesn't help that my favourite make-up designer (Dior) also likes to dabble in the retro and vintage vibe. While I might never be able to buy them, I find I have more fun in trying to recreate them. I'd pay a pretty penny for a pattern for Christian Dior's New Look Bar Suit that made fashion headlines in 1947. I love the jacket cuts in the video for the pre-fall ready-to-wear pieces especially the cute tartan dress, though I'll probably need a different colours of tartan for it to suit me:

Dior’s Pre-Fall collection takes its inspiration from the legendary love affair between Mrs. Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII. English romantisism is channeled into Balmoral fringed tweeds, heathered wools and candy-coloured tartans with Prince of Wales checks and coating cut in double-faced cashmere. Knitwear is Highland inspired with fur-trimmed Argyle sweaters, fringed cashmere cable knits and crochet finished Fair Isle suits while be-jewelled Duchess of Windsor embellished twinsets recapture the iconic style and gem collection of the Duchess.

P.S. I'm also in love with this song! If only I could figure out what it is called.
Dior wasn't the only one to take inspiration from this royal couple as butter London introduced Wallis, "a tarnished, metallic olive gold, as mysterious and regal as its namesake" for this fall.
