If there's one thing I've noticed about every single time I've come back to visit Alberta, it's that my journal writing, whether it be in print or online, tends to suffer and be forgotten. My life here is busier but not with the tasks of daily living. I have more distractions here and a part of me will never forget that this is home. While my social network here is larger than that of in Newfoundland, I don't see my friends here a lot. After all, now whenever I came back, I don't live in the main city but in a smaller city next to it, only 15 minutes away so it's not like I see them as often as I would like.
At this point, I've more or less moved in with M. Some of my plushies and enough clothes to take up my quarter of the closet (anymore would be "officially" moved in) but not all the little things of my life. As I've stated before, I've never moved as a child and when I moved to Newfoundland, that was the first time I had to move anywhere. The experience to M's place isn't as frightening since the previous move took most of the shock out of it for me. Most of the time I'm fine with the idea given I've been living with him for two months straight and we've just past our second anniversary of seeing each other last Saturday but whenever I think about the fact that I have moved into M's place if I was being honest, then I start freaking out a little. I guess it's because I still can't imagine anywhere else to be home but the house I grew up in.
The Con was busy and will be getting its own entry later. My summer courses are done. My ex is still bothering me on Facecrack, clearly not getting the idea that if I don't like you in person, I doubt my opinion would have changed for online. I finally got the chance to watch Inception again and got plenty of research notes for Equivalent Exchange now called Extermination, and I will be rambling about that later. The romance is so not working as I find that it is not my forte. The live event of the summer was Wicked for both J and I, of which I will comment on later in another entry. Lastly I've acquired some fall offerings from the cosmetic department, including the follow-up to Tailleur Bar:
The Mitzah Bricard palette with its leopard print barely excited me and neutrals scare me. I've only recently started experimenting with taupe but have yet to do a full face neutral look. The Lady Dior palette on the other hand with its clashing colours was right up my alley. I got one of the last three in the city. Currently I'm debating whether to be good or not; should I use this now or wait till I finish up with Tailleur Bar? At the rate I'm going with that, I'll have finished a quarter of the pan by the end of this year so it's not like I have that long to wait...
I've been loving Armani more lately but that isn't a surprise since it's more easily available now that the city has a counter of its own. It was either the Jacquard palette or the Givenchy one I was lusting over and since I've yet to see the latter in-person, the Jacquard won out. I dislike buying online blind as shopping should be an experience of the senses. To me, something is not bought until I'm literally touching and smelling it. I only bought the mascara and the eye palette (and this I will be saving for later!) but the the samples and full-size lipstick was complements of the lovely SA.
This summer I've finally gotten around to cleaning out the house my mother and I share and not a moment too soon. My mother has hoarded over the years and I kid you not when I say my friends used to joke in calling our home the Y2K house. However, in cleaning out closets and unearthing things that might not have seen the light of day in 20 years, give or take a decade, I've found my first golden find. You know of all those stories of treasures unearthed from a parent or grandparent's closet?
A genuine vintage Dior. Not a Lady Dior but something quite a bit older. The clasp wasn't working at first but once I fixed it, I knew it was definitely Dior because only they would clasps and zippers that almost take your hand off in using them (look up Lady Dior zipper horror stories). My mother says she bought it in duty-free back when she worked in the airport, so I'm pegging this to be 1970s monogrammed tapestry, which was common in the blue or the burgundy colour this one is in rather than black. Back then, many major designers were favouring the tapestry for material while now leather is the preferred one. After the major success of the Lady Dior, in recent years, most of the handbags are either leather and/or the cannage (canework) pattern.
Lastly, M surprised me with these the other day for no other reason but to surprise me:
