I've mentioned this on my private journal, but since this has an impact on the Chandlers, I really need to drop a quick note on this journal.

Last weekend, my computer's backlight stopped working. Since my computer is a laptop, this is an inherently Bad Thing and I've had to make do with a clunky old loaner external monitor while I wait patiently ( Read more... )

Funny, no, but it did make me smile. *HUG* We'll wait as long as we need to, Fire. Just know that we miss you even more than the Chandlers, and we can't wait to see you again. *MOAR HUS!*

Do they give you the opportunity to suck all the files, including the applications, to the new computer? That's what they did with mine. The main problem is that Tiger and Leopard put applications in different places. It's possible that if I'd moved my Sims file, done that, placed The Sims in the right place, and then moved my files back, I would have been ok.

Good luck with that, Fire.

Unfortunately, I'm buying my new computer online and I'm not being offered IT support like that. And since I have all the IT skills of a macaque with a pointy rock, I'm not skilled enough to try something like that.

Since I'm switching OS from XP to Seven, I'm willing to bet it'd be a pain in the ass, as well.

Nah, that's honestly not an Awesome Tech thing. It's just a Mac thing. When you get a new one, it asks if you want to import stuff, including your settings, from the old computer. What I really needed to do was find out if there was an issue with Tiger to Leopard.

I already know there will be an issue with Snow Leopard to Lion. Ideally, I'd uninstall/reinstall, but I can't install the older Mac disks. So I'm going to try still running the old ones, and I'm also keeping my old laptop, just in case.

I also usually pay for 3 years of tech support/guarantee for a new Mac. But they make you pay for that. It's why Macs cost a lot, and a lot of people would say it wasn't worth it.

Ah, I knew I should've bought a Mac way back when (only I do love my games, and Macs... well). PCs are in many ways less and more complex than Macs.

I did have an extended warranty on my computer, but that ran out a couple years ago. She's an old girl in computer terms. It'd be nice if laptops had a lifespan of more than about three years.

*hugs*

Depending on what game disks you are missing I might be able to help with a few digital downloads. I don't have everything digitally, but I have some.

Let me know if you want to go that route since I will need to show you how to do that.

*hugs back*

Right now, I only have access to my copy of Masion and Garden Stuff. I'll be able to get ahold of the other SPs when I get home - it's just that my brother stole the basegame and all expansions. So nothing major.

Meh, I'll probably just wait until I catch up with him next and tell him to please be bringing the discs back with him. It'll probably take me that long to get all my files across from my old unit to the new one.

That sucks. D: Well, even if you can't sim you can at least get some writing stuff done if the mood ever strikes you, right?

Oh, yes, writing could possibly happen. Maybe. At least this will make me go through all my old files and scripts to figure out what to keep. That might get me going again.

Stranger things have happened, right?
