The ship was in trouble. They were leaking fuel and they were losing it fast. They were in trouble if they couldn’t make it to the nearest jump gate and find help. There was no breakdown service out there that would work.
Three hours later...
“Welcome to Babylon 5”, a kind station employee said as they handed over their ident cards. In the entrance to the famous space station stood two awestruck women.
“Wow, would you look at this place?” Becca turned to look at her companion but was surprised when she didn’t find her standing there anymore. Looking down she gasped at the sight of her companion passed out on the floor.
An hour later...
Sounds and bright lights were the first thing that Lauren was aware of as she began to come round. As she opened her eyes, a handsome man smiled at her as he noticed her stir. She recognised him as Steven Franklin. He made his way over to her from what looked like a control panel.
“Hi there. I’m Doctor Franklin. You were brought here after you lost consciousness when you arrived with your friend. How are you feeling?”
“Awake. Rested. Where’s Becca?”
“Here.” Becca sounded like a kid in a candy store... or more appropriately a librarian in a bookstore. Her face was lit up with excitement and wonder. “You okay Loz?”
Lauren leaned over and whispered, “Sure, just over excited. Gods, I feel like a dork. This place is like... epic!”
“Well, you’re okay to go,” Franklin interjected.
Lauren pulled back the covers and got to her feet, as Becca put a supporting arm around her.
“If we can get five steps without you being a total fangirl we can go explore this place and see if all the stories are true.” Becca’s excitement was even more evident to Lauren as she could practically feel it vibrating out of her.
As they approached the exit the most beautiful women swept in before them. “Steven, John told me you had asked for me.”
His reply was interrupted by the sound of two identical thuds on the floor...
An hour later...
Lauren was experiencing déjà vu. Sounds and bright lights were the first thing that she was aware of as she began to come round. As she opened her eyes, a handsome man smiled at her as he noticed her stir. Then she noticed Becca waking up on the pallet next to her. They looked at each other with identical looks, blushing as the memory of what had happened returned to them.
“Are you both alright?” It was her. It was Delenn.
“Yes.” They both replied automatically. Delenn looked at them with her ‘humans are strange’ face.
“What are your names?”
Becca was too busy staring to realise a question had been asked. Lauren smirked at her and answered. “I’m Lauren. Her name is Becca... she doesn’t talk much.”
Delenn bowed her head in greeting to both. “I’m...”
“DELENN!” Lauren and Becca shouted in unison, then realised how fangirly that had been and quickly turned bright shades of pink.
“Your ship has been repaired and fortunately someone was able to find suitable fuel for it. It’s a primitive model.” Steven said. “Now, I’d like to keep you in for observation. Nothing in my tests indicating illness. I’m not sure what’s causing you to faint. I’d like to make sure you’re both clear to go.”
Lauren and Becca tried not to look at Delenn at that point for fear that the cause would be made painfully obvious.
“I’m needed in a meeting,” Delenn mentions to Steven. Turning her attention to her attentive audience who were watching every move she made as though committing it to memory (which they were), she smiled at them. “It was nice to meet you both. I hope you are well soon.”
“We’ll be fine,” Becca told her.
“Faith manages,” Lauren added. Becca shot her one of her ‘you’re such a dork’ looks and mentally kicked herself for not saying it first.
“Faith manages,” Delenn agreed. “Goodbye.”
“Old friend...” Lauren and Becca whispered as Delenn started to turn away. They suddenly froze when she turned back. She paused to study them both, looking like she was considering something. Apparently having reached a decision she approached Becca, opening her arms and gave her a hug then turned to Lauren to do the same.
Stepping back, she bowed her head and swept out of the room. Mouths wide, Becca and Lauren stared at the spot she had just vacated. Moments passed before they looked at each other.
“DELENN WRAP!” was all they managed to get out before once again slumping against the pallets unconscious...
Days later...
The two friends walked towards the landing bay their ship was docked at. Having adventured aboard Babylon 5 they were leaving with a few mementos they'd picked up along the way... one of which was a security poster Lauren was staring at proudly as she walked.
“This is going up as the sign on my bedroom door!”
Becca laughed at her. “Who would have thought a time travelling space ship bought from an infomercial would’ve worked out so well?”
“Until we drove it into that chunk of rock.”
“You drove into that meteorite Lauren.”
“I said I was sorry,” Lauren replied.
“Where to next?”
Lauren appeared to think about it for a few minutes. “How about we go pick up Court and go see some dinosaurs?”
