Son of internet fail whale

Jun 30, 2009 18:52

Comcast was supposed to be at my place between 8 and 10.

At 9:30 I called to say, "No really, I need to know he's on the way because at 10:30 I *have* to leave." I get told that I'm still within the window and on the list.

10:30, I have to go and no one has shown up and no one has called to say, "Gee I'm a bit behind." Total fail.

2:00 RCN calls (while I can't take the call) and leaves a long rambling message that alternates between 'today' and 'Friday' and I *think* tells me that my appointment for Friday between 4 and 8 p.m. has been changed due to the holiday scheduling. It's now between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. so please cancel any holiday plans YOU had so you can sit around for us to MAYBE show up. Uh huh. Sure.

4:30 I get home call Comcast. They can't decide if I had an appointment or not, but they'll try to get someone out tonight. No, wait. Tomorrow. Between 1 and 4. So much for the (admittedly loose) plan I had tomorrow to go do some shooting at the zoo. (That looks bad, doesn't it?) I may or may not have threatened them with nasty things if they don't show up this time.

6:00 I'm futzing with what Sithdragn suggested - make my mobile my modem. Can't get it, can't get it, can't get it, call T-Mobile. T-Mobile dude, "Yeah, this is the sucky part. You have to get on line before you can get on line. You have to download a script."

*HEAD DESK!!!!*

So I've dragged my ass to the library again to download the script. So far, I still can't make the damn thing work. I think the nifty little illustrated instructions I got are for 10.4. I'm on 10.5. I may or may not have said 10.4 on the phone. Damn. Of course I'm in the library so I can't exactly call. Hm... trying anyway... let's see if I get kicked out.

So incredibly sick of hassling with this. Isn't a stable internet connection a basic human right at this point?

ETA: Made call for 10.5 software patch while in library. Not kicked out. Didn't even notice any dirty looks. :>

dear universe - quit it, electronics, internet
