Chapter 4 Chapter 5
When Ryan wakes up he blinks the dark room into focus and sits up, the blanking that covered him falling off. He smiles and stretches, scratching his head and getting up.
“Brendon?” he calls but no one answers.
With a frown he looks around and spots the note on the old desk in the corner.
Went to get your stuff
There are still a few chocolate bars in the cupboard
Please stay inside
Bren
He sighs and looks to the fireplace. Only Brendon is able to light it so he has to keep himself warm another way.
“Stupid vampire. Never thinks about human needs.” He mumbles and grabs the blanket, wrapping it around himself.
He sits there for a while before he gets hungry and gets up to grab a chocolate bar out of the cupboard. When he opens it he takes one and notices the matches in the back of the cupboards and smiles.
“Awesome. Matches and no firewood.” He mumbles and looks to the door.
Sure Brendon said not to go outside but he has a reason. Ryan thinks about it for a while longer before walking over and opening the door, the blanket still wrapped around him.
It’s pretty light outside for the middle of the woods. He closes the door and looks around briefly before starting to collect some branches.
After a while he starts to sing quietly.
Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave without leaving a piece of youth
He whispers the first few lines, looking around in case someone’s around.
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change the less you feel
He mumbles a bit louder, picking up more pieces of wood.
Believe, believe in me, believe
He sings and smiles, dancing a bit.
That life can change, that you're not stuck in vain
He sings and beams.
We're not the same, we're different tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight
He reaches a clearing and smiles up at the sun, placing the branches on the ground near a tree.
And you know you're never sure
But you're sure you could be right
If you held yourself up to the light
He sings happily and dances around like a child.
And the embers never fade in your city by the lake
The place where you were born
Believe, believe in me, believe
He beams and falls back into the soft grass.
In the resolute urgency of now
And if you believe there's not a chance tonight
Tonight, so bright
Tonight
He sighs and looks up at the sky.
We'll crucify the insincere tonight
We'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight
We'll find a way to offer up the night tonight
The indescribable moments of your life tonight
The impossible is possible tonight
He mumbles and closes his eyes.
Believe in me as I believe in you, tonight
He whispers the last part and curls up in the glass, trying not to cry.
“That was beautiful, boy.”
Ryan freezes and his breath hitches. The boy sits up quickly and looks around.
“Who is there?” he asks and gets up, not seeing anyone. Maybe he’s just hallucinating.
Quickly he runs over to the wood he collected and grabs it, making his way back to the cabin.
“Why the hurry?”
He freezes and feels a cold body press up against his back. A hand sneaks up his side and Ryan shivers. He turns around and faces his follower.
It’s a man, well a vampire. He’s pale with dark hair falling into his face. His black-rimmed eyes narrowed as he observes Ryan.
“You’re even prettier close up.” He purrs and Ryan takes a step back.
“W-who are you?” he whispers, voice shaking.
The vampire steps back and bows briefly.
“My name is Peter Lewis Kingston Wentz the third.” He says with a smile. “But you can call me Pete.”
Ryan just keeps staring at him and says nothing.
Pete sighs and steps closer again.
“And you’re Ryan. Brendon’s little … toy.”
Ryan blinks and narrows his eyes.
“How do you know my name? Wait- I’m not his toy!”
Pete starts laughing loudly.
“Of course you’re not.”
“I am not! We’re friends!”
“A vampire can’t be friends with a human.”
“Sure they can!”
Pete hums and walks around him, still observing him.
“You’re food.”
Ryan shakes his head.
“He kept you so he won’t die.”
He just shakes his head again, slower this time.
“You’d be more for me than just food.” He purrs into Ryan’s ear, making him shiver.
Ryan steps back and looks down.
“I should go.”
Pete nods and steps back.
“Think about what I said.”
Ryan narrows his eyes at him and whirls around, quickly running back to the cabin. He rushes inside and slams the door shut, taking a deep breath.
He sits on the mattress and waits for something to happen but Pete doesn’t show up again. Eventually Ryan calms down and lights the fire, falling asleep in front of it.
